That is discouraging to hear. I'm still rocking my Toshiba 27" "picture in picture" I bought brand new in 91' for $1200
Everything still works too including the remote!

I bought it 10 years ago for the superbowl and its getting picky with powering on.
Sometimes it takes 5 minutes of turninig it on until it stays on.

I shopped around for a new tv 1.5 years ago and ended up with a 50" Zenith plasma from Sears for $500. I would at least stop in there and see what they got. Dont get the warranty...

I have several Vizio LCD tv's and most of them came from Walmart. I have been very happy with them and they are very reasonably priced.

If it's a Samsung make sure you call their customer service department. I received an email from them about capacitor issues in their older LCDs and Plasmas that cause this exact same issue. Shortly after receiving the email my 32" started doing it. Samsung will replace the capacitors in the TV ONCE completely free of charge. I haven't had a problem with it since.

Im a hardcore believer in Panasonic plasmas, best overall picture quality bare none! Check out cnet's reviews. Best advice is to ignore anything 3d, its basically a gimmick and will be extinct soon. Smart TVs I believe are a waste as well. If you have the space and cash available, shoot for 55-60".

I bought my LG 50" 1080 Plasma last year for dirt cheap from Best Buy. The model I bought isn't ever on sale or even on display. Turns out it's exactly the same as the new LG Smart TVs but with all of the nifty software turned off for $1500 less.

Complete waste of money for junk software. Damn nice TV though.

Here's a list of sales

Or you could take it to be repaired. This place has repaired several for me, their prices were pretty cheap.

All my dad will buy is a plasma. After seeing those new Samsung LED 1080p's, I am sold. LED is, IMO, the best picture quality. I know the Sears outlet by me has a 46" LED Samsung on sale (or maybe clearance) for I think $500?

Try Sears, I got a pretty good deal on a 50" LG plasma not too long ago, and sign up for their rewards program, might be good for a few extra bucks. I got a $50 off coupon on TV's after buying something else first.
