Default Decent late 90's-early 00's 2 stroke bikes?

Been getting the itch to buy another 2 stroke lately. Late 90's-early 00's bikes seem to be in my price range. So my question is, what are some good all around mostly stock 2 stroke bikes to look for? I'm used to Suzuki's, but I'm willing to try something new. Really just looking for a good, reliable bike that's not too hard to build up. I'll probably be mostly looking at 125's for now, because it's mostly gonna be used to ride around the property/woods and some occasional trails.

the newest yz you can find will be your best bet but they are pretty damn good going all the way back to 03. 01+ rm would be ok but not as reliable. if you are just playing around the hondas would be ok also. they are a little slow stock. if it was me i would try to find an 06 + yz in your price range. they are the best all the way up until 2011+ ktm.

Looks like yamaha is the way to go...nickb304, is there any big reason to stay away from 02 and older yz's?

Is price the reason you specify 2-stroke? Reason I ask is a 4-stroke for your listed intentions would be ideal IMO. $ for $, hard to beat a cr250, but I don't think you'll want to tool around the yard with it much.

Price is definitely a factor, but I grew up with mostly 2-strokes. It's what my dad had when he was a kid, so it's what I had. From all the fun times as a kid and recently getting back into 2s, I think I'll just look for something that I'm pretty comfortable with.
