go for .177 non PBA. that sounds like a .22 when it hits because its so much faster. The one I posted earlier works accurately at a distance with the scope. I'm sure most any posted would work for your function.

A lot of the noise from the powerful spring guns is from the mechanism itself. Nitro piston guns are a lot quiter and just as fast as most spring guns.

Very true. But I i put a standard lead pellet in my spring gun and then a PBA pellet in the noise it much greater. That was all I was pointing out. PBA is where extra fast advertised speeds come from. I'm not 100% sure but a lead pellet will shoot approximately 1000fps in my gun wheras a PBA will shoot 1200

Overall the nitro will be quieter. But the spring I posted is pretty quiet.

Let me suggest skipping the air rifle. A single shot bolt action. 22 that will fire short and long rifle gives so many options. Get some. 22 cb shorts. They make the same noise as an un silenced air rifle. Power can be adjusted by cartridge. A cb short is about 450 fps. This will nock the shit out of your list of victims.

Just remember if you live in a city an air gun is qualified as a fire arm. Spring powered are not. Learned that from our local police as I was scaring away some racoons one night.

IMO RWS pellets have the best cosistancy and shoot the best/hold the best groups out of my gun. They're not cheap

I have some crossman pointed lead pellets, that I have mine sighted in with.

It is very accurate at the length of my pole barn 70 to 80 feet. I use it for chip munks and sparrows. I have shot it on a bench, typically the combine tire, and can keep a dime sized group at 70 feet lets say.

I have shot at crows in my drive way, from the front of my pole barn to the ever present mud puddles in the drive way, I just measured on daft logic, and came up with 116 yards, I believe from point of aim it is dropping 7 or 8 feet at that distance. 50 yards about 3 feet of drop, I wish I could tell you the grain weight of the pellets, but they are in the barn and it is 7 degrees out side.

I have shot several munk chips in the barn, I can tell you it will not readily kill a chip munk, it will wound them to death, but it is not a quick shot and then it is over if it is not a head shot.

It will drop a sparrow like nothing, and as a matter of fact, it will skip off a sparrow, and blow a hole through the side of your new pole barn that you only have four more years worth of payments on.

Be carefull it is not a toy.

What kind of air rifle are you shooting that won't readily kill a chipmunk? My buddy killed to coons shooting .22 cal lead pellets out of my Gamo shotgun. I've killed both crows & rabbits with my old Sheridan Blue Streak with 1 shot.

Like any other gun buy a bunch of different pellets & see which shoot best from your particular gun. RWS & others sell sampler packs, so you don't get stuck with a bunch of pellets that don't work for you. Check out Airgun Express or Firearms and Supplies, at least I think that is the name of the place in Houghton/Hancock.
