Default Fireplace experts, need some expertise.

I have a wall of brick for my fireplace that I absolutely hate. Plan is to divide it into thirds and the middle third put some cultured stone veneer up and drywall the outer 2/3rds.

The question I have is in the wall there are 4 vents, bottom and about a foot above firebox opening. I believe it to be some sort of heatilator type deal installed sometime in the mid-late 70s, I'd like to cover them up since they will be right where I want to stone and it'll look shitty having vents there.

So should I be concerned going over them with stone or just find vent covers that look nice?
