Just 1? no offense, but welcome to Detroit City, it's all good
TAFT, Calif. (AP) -

One student has been shot at a high school in Taft, Calif., a community in the southern San Joaquin Valley.

Kern County sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt also says a suspect is in custody and is believed to be a student.

The shooting was reported at Taft Union High School around 9 a.m. Thursday.

The sheriff's spokesman says the wounded student was flown to a hospital in Bakersfield.

Pruitt says it's believed a shotgun was used in the attack.

Taft is a community of about 7,000 some 120 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

I think if we banned kids from schools, problem solved!

What if the Government acted upon the recommendation of the NRA to put a security officer in each school before the New Year began... Would this even be in the news right now? Instead the government is trying to push its own agenda instead of actively taking measures to prevent this.

If the shotgun had a black synthetic stock with a pistol grip we are doomed - because the appearance of the weapon is far more dangerous than the person behind the gun.

All kidding aside, hope the kid who was shot is OK - the other kid should be hung by his nut sack in the town square.

I just watch the news conference, they did not give much info out. But no one was killed, although they were hit. I bet there going to use this to re in force the assault we on ban. They will say "if" he had an ar with a 30 round mag that 40 kids would have been killed. Because the 223 round is the most powerful in the universe...

Guards don't work for free, its easy for that guy to call for something that people need to find funds for. I don't see many people, especialyl this 4x4 board signing up for more taxes. Do you really think an armed guard would fix evreything? Kinda like how making sure the soldiers in Iraq are all armed, so people leave them alone? Malls usually have security guards, and are about the same size as big schools. No issues there? Army bases, they have lots of MPs.. ever have issues there?

The national number of kids kids in schools by guns is normally under 30 per year, usually in signle incidents that are pretty hard to ever do anything about. Both sides are using it, because its visible and very emotional. Anti gun people use it as a reason to say there should be guns, and pro gun people use it as a reason to have more guns. Neither answer is going to fix anything.

Over the top emotional for sure.
Funding is easy. We can find money for many other things that are not as important as our kids. Start with foreign aid.

If someone has murder in their heart, they will murder. I don't think you can stop these attacks, you can only try to minimize the damage.

Let's say a miracle happens and a ban of all guns actually works. Unlike the ban on illegal drugs and substances, through magic a gun ban works and restricts access to firearms, what would people like Adam Lanza and the Aurora shooter do?

Using a gun is the easy way out. However if that were not an option I fear an even more devastating attack would happen. Someone who has a plan to murder as many 6 year olds as possible would not call off an attack because they didn't have access to a gun. I am suggesting they would plan an even more horrific attack like Timothy McVeigh or a new way of attack. Not having access to a gun there are still many ways to kill. He could have rented a truck and ran kids over at recess. He could have smashed his way into the school while the kids were at an assembly and chain the doors shut and start a fire. When someone makes it their mission, their LAST mission in life, you can't stop the attack.

Our government think otherwise. If they don't have access to a people killer ar15 with a 30 round mag, they will just stay home and play Nintendo.

I thought guns were banned on school premises. How do these people continue to get these pieces of death into areas in which they are legally not allowed. We need more laws to make sure that these already banned death objects are double and triple banned. That will make us all safe! <-- Sarcasm.

Wait, so $40 per vehicle in an attempt to prevent 100 children age 5 and under from being backed over and killed every year makes no sense, but spending $5 BILLION annually in an attempt to prevent less than 30 child deaths per year does make sense?

Something like 98,000 public schools. Figure average annual compensation at $50K (salary + benefits). You are going to need at least 100,000 guards, probably more to cover all the hours, vacations, sick time, etc. 100,000 x $50K = 5 billion per year. Now remember your comments about backup cameras which have the potential to prevent an estimated 300 deaths annually (about 100 being kids 5 and under) and about 18,000 injuries per year. 16 million new vehicles x $40 = $640 million per year. How/why does your argument against the rearward visibility rule not apply now?

That super long article linked to in the political forum had it right. Let the school staff who want to volunteer to get properly trained be the armed first responders. Schools in Texas were doing that before the tragedy at Sandy Hook happened. We should look at how their programs work and adopt the ones which are most likely to be effective here.

I am feeling all tinfoil hat today because a wacko in walled lake was shooting at cops today too and the whole area was all like upset and I heard more than one person say "They should just get rid of guns."
The timing of this all has nothing to do with the agenda?
