any one on this fourm in the local 58?
im going to become a sparky and was wondering how it was for you.
like how was the apprenticeship?
how long was it?
what all did u do in apprenticeship school?

Have you even applied yet? if you were accepted you would know its 5 yrs. 8 hrs every other week so u lose a day of work every 2 weeks. is your dad in the local? if not expect to bounce around til you top out and then pack your bag to become a traveling man looking for work.

Most every local hand I ever met had family before them in the local. However the company I worked for still paid the apprentices for a full day when they left early for their skoolin.

my dads a union carpenter and so is my uncle and my grandpa. 2 of my buddys dads are in the local 58

I took the test years ago and had an interview but they seemed to have an issue with me having worked for a split shop and never called me. Most of the union guys I worked with at the time had family to get them in. Back when the new stadiums & casinos were being built they would take about any journeymen into the union. Last I heard since all of that work dried up most of those people are gone and there are a lot of guys on the books not working.

There were quite a few guys at the last project I was on in Baldwin il, that were from Michigan.
