Default 6.0 with mods in jeep crawler. want overdrive. suggestions?

i have a 91 wrangler here is the specs
40s
4.88 gears
one tons
3.0 atlas
th350
06 6.0 DRW with 243 heads, 04 ZO6 cam, texas speed push rods, vette oil pan, hooker headers, 2.5" exhaust.

it does fairly well cruising down the road the way it sits. i plan on running it more this summer. i have a set of 37" BFG ats that i will be running on it for the most part. when i run those tires the rpms are a little high. also my th350 is starting to go after getting back from MOAB. i can get my hands on a build 4L80E or i have a core to build a 700R4. im not sure what to do but i would like OD for driving down the road. should i just rebuild my th350 or build one of these OD trans? i want it to be strong... any input would be greatly appreciated.

The 4L80 will need an aftermarket computer.
The 700 won't unless it's a 4l60 then it does.
(round connector on pass side vs four pin on drivers side)
The 350 will be the cheapest overall.

I'd build the 700.. for the extra $$ the OD will be a huge improvement on rpms while crusing, plus 700 has lower 1,2 gear than a 350 to begin with so you're actually gaining while offroad also...

There was some discussion around new year's in chadcoopers build thread.

http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthr...175584&page=10

We are putting a 4L60E with the TransGo manual valve body conversion kit in our race jeep. Tranny Tom went through it to upgrade a few parts to hold up against our 6.0 and installed the MVB kit and made sure the trans was ok inside since we bought it used. I'm glad we did since he said a few seals were fubar'd from the previous installer. No computer needed, just add a vacuum line and shift like a manual. No TV cable either.

We went that way because we thought we might like the OD if in Low range, he 1st gear is deeper at 3.0 than the 2.5 of the TH350/TH400, and we got a good deal on it with the adapter already installed.

AlumCJ runs a 4L80E built by Tranny Tom with the Trans Go valve body kit in it, too. I think he had a checkup on it this year and all was well inside on a built up LS2 racing Ultra4 events.

I would go with either of those choices.

If your running EFI with factory ECM. I would go with the 4L80E. Those are pretty tough trans. And you don't need an aftermarket controller.

700R needs no computer and can be built bomb proof. Manual vb gets old real quick. I wheeled a 700 behind my small block for 2 years than for 2 years behind my big block with no rebuild in between and I was not nice to it. Rebuilt it last year and all it needed was clutches.

i guess i dont really care how much i spend. i already have a ton of $$ into my rig so whats a little more to get what i want? should i run a non lock up torque converter in the 700R4? or just leave it alone?

I ran one behind a 454 with a corvette converter for about 4 years daily driving, pulling a skidsteer and beating the hell out of it whenever i could. It had been rebuilt with a mild shift kit and HD towing clutches, I sold it about 6 months ago, still going strong.

I would go with a 4l80e if I were you. Not much money difference at this point, and really strong. I also remember you talking about more power, so it will be ready for that down the road.

I hope to turbo my 5.3 down the road and one of my concerns is if I will be able to get my 4l60e to hold up to ~ 600hp...... I am not real excited about re-doing my driveshafts, t-case etc....
