The onus is on the criminal. We only lock our doors to keep the honest people out.
Well played

Thieves are gonna steal.

Killers are gonna kill.

But since we can't keep thieves and killers from doing their thing, let's take the easy way out and restrict people who follow the law.

Did you know that some cities have laws against leaving your keys in your car? Yep, we can't stop car thieves, so make it illegal to warm your car up in the morning.

So, if we make a law making the gun owner partially responsible for crimes committed with his stolen gun, what is the line of responsibility? So the gun owner buys the biometric nightstand vault and the thief just sledgehammers the cable lock off so he can open the safe at a later time, in another location, is the homeowner still responsible? Should a gun owner have to have a vault cemented into the foundation with a six point locking mechanism and retina scan? (Yes, ridiculously overblown)

How about this:

If you commit a violent crime with a gun in your possession, regardless of whether the gun was actually used in the crime, you go away- permanently. No '3 strikes', no plea bargain, you commit a violent crime with a gun on you and you are done.

I say 'violent crime' for the reason that some jackass will say 'what if you are speeding and you have a gun on you? That's a crime!'

There's a lot wrong with our society, entitlement attitudes, disrespect of others, lack of respect for authority, self esteem without self respect, general laziness and lack of direction. These are the things that need fixing, but that's hard to do- so let's just blame an object and remove it.
