Default Anyone here own/owned a dodge caliber?

Possibly getting myself into a 08. Don't personally know anyone who's owned one. Anyone have any input on them?

Drove one for a while as a rental, in both Caliber and Compass forms.

CVT is "different" - not good or bad, just different. I found the Caliber to be gutless in 2.0L form against 30-40 mph winds out west. Driving into strong winds out of Vegas slowed it down like a pickup towing an enclosed trailer.

Daughter has a Patriot (essentially same thing) and it's been troublefree for the most part.

X2. All three on that platform eat through balljoints every 40k miles. I had an SRT it was fun lots of torque steer but I had no issues with it.

I had a very base model for a while. Seemed like the BJs did wear out fast. The interior was pretty un comfortable. The seats were ok, but the arm rests and head rests are all hard plastic, it hurt my elbows and really pissed me off. I had the smallest motor and a manual trans. I would rev the snot out of it to at least give me a false sense of acceleration. Handled decent, ride was fair, kinda loud with road noise. Alot of the under hood wiring was wraped with electrical tape from the factory for insulation / holding the harness in place (unbelieveable). All in all it was a decent low quality car.

I wrench on stuff, so I dont buy mopars. Expect front end parts to wear out prematurly and destroy tires like every other fwd car they build.Expect a cheezy, rattling, interior after it gets to be a few years old. Expect dodge guys to love them and every one else to tell you it is a mopar pos.

Successor to the neon.

I haven't owned one, but had a few as rentals. Co-worker owns one.

Overall rating of 'meh'. It'll get you where you are going, but no one is going to reminisce about owning one in 20 years.

A close friend of mine has an 09 that he has had since new. I've ridden in it quite a few times out to Chicago, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh for Tiger games as well as around the Detroit area and spent some time behind the wheel.

He's never had any unexpected problems with it and it's still be running fine. I would agree with the others that say that the interior is overall pretty crappy though.

The wife has a '10. Get the 2.4L it runs better good. Not sure when they redid the interior, but its pretty nice. She has the heated leather seats and they are pretty comfortable.
Dog can jump in the back, we can put Kayaks on the roof. Gets about 28 on the highway.
28K and no issues to date. <knock on wood>

2010 was when the interior was redesigned.

Type in Caliber customer reviews into Google and you will know why to stay away from these.
