Thanks Detroit!

I was detained and ticketed last night while leaving the Zac Brown concert. Crossing the street in a large group of maybe 20. The cop doing traffic tells people to stop, but I'm 80% through the crosswalk with others and get yanked to the side, handcuffed, thrown in the car, and ticketed for not following the direction of an officer or something like that. No warning, nothing. I've never been in trouble in my life and this hard on is holding his lit up baton over my head, saying he feels threatened by me. I wasn't intoxicated, acting out or anything. Just leaving the Joe with my wife.
I can't wait to fight this one. Total cash grab. Rant off!
55-1-2, disobey lawful order, signal or direction of a police officer.
The kid cop who wrote the ticket was not the one who pulled me aside, and kinda chuckled at my "cash grab" assessment of the situation. Hopefully it will make it easier to contest, considering the kid who wrote the ticket didn't actually see any of it. His Sargent just handed me of to him.

Pay the money don't waste your time fighting it. Judges in Detroit act as if your insulting them if you come in their court room without a lawyer. The judge will rule against you and make you pay more of a fine. Only reason I know this is my wife's cousin is a magistrate in the Detroit court system. He said they rules with the police officer everytime when the defendant shows up without a lawyer.

This is why I go to Detroit as little as possible. I hope that city goes bankrupt.

He was a 150lb little black cop. I'm a 220 lb white guy with a shaved head. He wanted to hit me so bad. He was fuming. We were in a group, crossing the street, having a good time. I was hand picked.

I'll definitely be fighting it. I don't care how it ends up

You're correct in the cash grab assessment.

Welcome to Detoilet.

However, the whole cash grab extends up to the judicial level as well. If you foolishly try to fight this without a Detroit lawyer, you will lose, and it will cost you more.

My parents were with me and jumped in their cab a minute before. My dad wouldn't have been quiet, and it certainly would have ended badly. I picture my dad bitching, getting clubbed, then me throwing a haymaker on the button, me getting severely beaten, and getting dragged off to jail.
The cop was waiving his stupid baton at my 100 lb wife for christ sake.
There was not one problem at the concert. A country concert where everyone got along and had a great time. I'm thinking this Sargent was in the wrong mood watching the sea of suburbanites. I'm sure gangsters shooting in Hart Plaza would be better.
Fuck, I'm pissed.

Don't blame you but like others have said, you are pissing in the wind without at least consulting with a lawyer.

If you got the arresting officers name you could just find out where he lives and throw a brick through his front window.

Or as everyone else said just consult a lawyer and see what your options are.

I started typing in my thoughts on this, and then I remembered this is a public forum.

Good Luck

Fuck this stupid cop and his sargeant. I have several freinds who are cops and my cousin retired a sarg or lt from kent county. These assholes dont deserve the badge they are wearing. There are actual crimes in detroit they could be fighting but its easier to grab monay from the innocent.

No he won't jackass, they can't make you pay more than you are already being fined for.

I would skip a house payment and screw my credit if thats what it took to hire a lawyer. I dont care if they fined me twice as much I would fight it. If you just roll over and pay they win.
I got a bogus ticket for doing 90 in a 70. I was in my work van with ladders and a 24' pick on the roof. I was going 78-80 . I fought it and lost, but I did the right thing. I had the van at the court house loaded just as it was when I got the ticket. I begged the cop and vagistrate to drive it to see if it would go 90, they refused.
Now I slow down to 68 on that stretch, and give that stateboy or any other parked there the one finger salute as I drive by with my phone recording my speedometer.
Am I asking for problems? Maybe Do I care? No
