Default handgun scope recommendations

Just picked up a Beretta u22 neos and wanted to put a scope on it for squirrel hunting but I don't know a thing about handgun optics. Please educate me on handgun optics and recommend models under $100.

I had a 40mm red dot with no magnification. make sure the light is adjustable, in certain light conditions they will blind you and in others you will not be able to see the dot.

It was a really quick way to accire targets. However,

I will tell you what an old man in the woods near Le Roy Michigan told me, "your going to go hungry hunting squirrel with a .22 hangun kid"

He was correct.

Had a scope on my .44 Mag.

Took it off and sold it.

Eye relief was a huge PITA, so much so that it was useless to me. It was a good Leupold handgun scope, so it wasn't a hardware issue as much as a "my arms aren't long enough to hold a heavy 8" barreled revolver steady at that distance".

I don't hunt squirrels with my .22 pistol but I've shot a few chipmunks with it. .22 LR birdshot works quite well within 50 ft. I've got a red dot scope on it. Can't recall the brand or power. (yeah, I know, not much help am I?)
