Default 1971 Bronco w/ 99 302 FI needs a tune?

My 71 bronco runs and drives great but the fumes out the exhaust are going to kill me. Seems to be running rich.

Not 100% sure about the o2 sensors functioning correctly. I need to scan codes again to see what they are and if they have anything to do with it.

Motor is 302 from a 99 Mountaineer as is the trans.

I did not put together the FI parts, they were on it when I got it but are from a 5.0 Explorer.

I fought with the harness the PO put in it, he is an engineer but not a mechanic at all....

I swapped it with a Ford Racing harness I got from Bigbchevy, its probably his fault.

I just bought a used wideband and plan to install and see where the ratio is at, any recommendations on where to put it, I only have one sensor. Will I need to monitor both sides one at a time?

Just need to know where to start.

If you know of a link to steps to take I can follow directions, I think.

I would start by getting a scanner on it and make sure everything is working correctly, fuel trims are close, o2's working and so on. If it is a stock motor there should be no reason for a "tune".

But is seems soo rich. It doesn't have cats on it either. Might put one or two on it this year.

I will scan it and see what it comes up with.

Not ready to part with it yet, unless the price is right.

You'll be fine with the O2 on one bank. You want to install it like this:
