I've sent emails but perhaps ink is more appropriate.

Exactly. They want to take the easy route. Whats easier, clicky clicky, or opening a letter to find really shitty penmanship covered in a coffee stain?

I had planned on posting the e-mail I sent, but apparently it did not save. However I did get a response from Bill today.
Quote:
Dear Mr. Dyer:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Newtown, Connecticut shooting. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

My heart goes out to all the parents, family, and community members that were affected by the horrific incident in Newtown on December 14th. As a father, I cannot fathom the grief and pain the parents impacted are experiencing.

The tragedies of Newtown are a clear reminder that children need parents or other loving adults in their lives, not only to set them on the proper path to being a responsible adult, but also to recognize when someone might need additional help, including help addressing mental illness. Adults must also do their part to make sure children are safe at home, including knowing what movies and television programs are being viewed and what video games they are playing. The level of violence in entertainment is astonishing, and it is not appropriate for every viewer.

In addition to parental and adult responsibility, we must also continue to adequately fund mental health care to make sure that those that need assistance or treatment have proper access. We need to make sure that desperately ill individuals get help, and don't hurt themselves or other people.

Criminals that abuse firearms should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. We must be careful not to sacrifice the Constitutional freedoms of honest, law abiding citizens moving forward on this debate. I am a supporter of responsible gun ownership. The right to bear arms, like all rights our Constitution reserves to the people, will be abused from time to time. The best response is to prosecute the individual responsible instead of the fundamental right itself.

I appreciate you contacting me on this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future. It is an honor to serve you in Congress.

Sincerely,

Bill Huizenga
Member of Congress

Dreezy, is that what he typed or a cut & paste of what you had sent?
If it's his words, you have a keeper.

That was his reply. Mine didn't show up in my sent box, but I think I sent it via his web page.

In this day and age the method isn't the important part, it's the content and just getting the message to the office of the Senator/Rep. They have "people" that read them and have a form letter response. They do want to do it the easy way, so their "people" tell them how many letters (whether paper or electronic) sum up the for and against and may pass along a meaningful letter for a more personal response. Now if this does any good or not is up to the integrity of the politician to listen to the people he represents or to the packs and party lines. With that said please contact Levin and Stabenaw they will be bombarded by the Dems to vote for gun control/bans

My letter to my congressman

Dear Congressman Camp:

I am writing you in regards to the gun control proposals coming out of Washington and elsewhere. No doubt our wonderful country has witnessed several unexplainable tragedies relating to the use of guns in the last several years. I am sure, like most of us, you know that it was neither the type of weapons used nor the weapons themselves that are responsible for these events.

With that said I am sure you would also agree that instead of gun control we need to be looking in the other direction, arming those responsible with our nations children. Gun free zones have not worked! Gun control has not worked! I don't have the answer to exactly what will, but it is alarmingly obvious it is neither of these 2 things.

I encourage you Mr. Camp to vote no on any gun control measures and join forces with representatives who are sponsoring bills removing gun free zones, including those in Schools.

Thank you for your service.

Sincerely,

Patrick Kinne

Better hand write them letters quickly, we are running out of time. USPS is slow as it is, in addition to the fact letters to our law makers and government officials get delayed via check point. Checking for anthrax and other dangerous substances. I for one, plan to make some phone calls.
