My wife got me a Garmin Approach G3 late in the season this year for my bday. Love it! Doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles but easy to use and I found it to be pretty accurate. Favorite feature is to be able to move the yardage target around both on the fairway and green. Quite a few times I was able to get much closer to the pin than w/o because I knew yardages to front/middle/back of green and exact pin location distance.

I've used the phone apps, they suck and if you don't have a good signal are useless.

Good timing on this post, now I know what I for christmas.
