Default Car insurance question.

My oldest son just turned 16 NOV. 30th,so I called my insurance company(Citizens) and got a quote. They told me it would be an additional $555.00 every 6 months for him and a 97 Chevy Lumina wtf?, is there a cheap car insurance company for a 16 year old?

Nope. Just make sure he keeps his record clean and his grades above a 3.0.

Some companies look for young drivers and have more favorable rates, so it can be worth shopping around, but you can take the word cheap out of your vocab until he turns 25.

Make him a secondary driver on the car and you might not get raped quite as bad.

The only cheap way out of this for yourself is to disown him.
On the plus side he technically does not need to know that.

make him get his own policy, even if you have to pay for it.
do not put him on your insurance!!!!

it leaves you open to a lawsuit if he makes a "16 year old" mistake behind the wheel.
help him out, but keep your distance legally.

Same here. Had to get my own car (mom loaned me the $300, but I had to pay it back by the end of the summer) had to get my own insurance, and had to pay for the gas and upkeep of my car myself.

Kinda fukked that up with my kid, but it's because I like to buy cars

If your kid gets in an accident and kills or paralyzes someone, you may get sued in civil court.

I had my own policy at 16 on a 1980 Chevy Monza and recall my insurance being cheap at the time.

The car was still close to new when I got my license...... Nah, it was 10 years old when I started driving it and my insurance cost more than the car.
