Default Engineer info wanted

I have my theories, but Id like to know why oem shocks are mounted in front of or behind the axle. not like we tend to do on top

I figured that the geometry had something to do with axle wrap, especially when they mount one in front and one behind the rear axle, but surely they get shocks in any length they want. what do you think axle wrap or some other reason

I think it's in attempt to dampen wheel hop. When the axle wraps up and unloads due to wheel hop, whether the axle is twisting forward or backward there's going to be a shock in compression.

Edit: I thought you meant why one is angled forward and the other is angle rearward like you see on pickups.

ease of assembly.

I'm not an engineer, but I talk with enough of them each day to pick up on a few of the "why" do we do this or that kind of things.

Based on that, I bet it has over time saved the manufactures a significant amount of assembly time to have the bolts down below the axle in a place that they can fairly easily get an air ratchet up to them to tight them up as opposed to mounted at 12:00 position on the axle tube. I wouldn't think that suspension dynamics plays a "huge" role in this decision, but I am sure there is at least some amount of that included in their choice to put them there.
