I just learned if you turn on 20/20 right now Barbara Walters is teaching a class on how to get to heaven. Never thought that Barbara Walters was a spiritual leader. I'm tempted to watch, but think it will likely just confuse a whole lot of people.

x2! I have mixed feelings about what "religion" is anymore so I'll just leave it as I "believe".

I believe there was once a man named Jesus Christ.

And I believe that all religions were created because of man's fear of death and the uncertainty of an afterlife. No one wants to be thought of only as worm food.

I believe that this isn't a dress rehersal, we only have one chance to get it right and I try to do that everyday.

No uncertainty here. I know I'm going to heaven! My body will be worm food and I'm good with that, it's my soul that gets to have all the fun!

Who cares? Whatever people believe is their own business. Would you not help out a fellower 4 wheeler because you found out he/she wasn't Christian? Is anyone here going to treat someone differently if they say they 'don't believe' or a 'non-Christian?'
Believe in whatever you want, that is the American way, and treat everyone with respect. Tolerance is the key to a happier world. Live and let live.

i am not a Christain. i know many people have there beliefs and very strong ones at that. but i dont know anything about anytype of religous beliefs and chose not to at this point i. maybe later in life when im not an immature young adult. i will open my eyes to that sort of thing. A lot of my friends are very strong with there beliefs and if they start talking about it, i listen. i like to hear what anybody has to say about there point of view on that subject. i find it interesting but im seem undisided about my thoughts.

What makes a person a Christian? Are you Christian?

Can you believe in the generic God and not be Christian?

Do you think Islam is like Christianity in regards to muslims etc... believing in Allah like Christians believe in God?

Can you be religious and not believe in a deity?

So let me see if I understand this Christians. You believe you will go to heaven if follow in Christs teachings. You believe he died for all of our sins. And he is the son of God?

Aside from the son part, I think this is pretty much identical to the Islam beliefs. Going to "heaven" by following in Muhammads teachings etc...

Looking at this objectively, the utter similarities between islam and christianity without any prior connection tells me that the probility of it being random is nill. This is the only hope that I have left that something taught between them is the truth.

I agree, we are not here to judge whether others will go to heaven. It's not our call. But I do believe we can share the message and let others decide whether or not they listen. I would never force it on anyone. Afterall, I can't save someone elses soul, only they can.

True, Jesus and Muhammad were both spiritual leaders. There have been many spiritual leaders on earth, from many religions. And most teach similar lessons of peace and goodwill. But Jesus being the sacrificial lamb, the son of God sacrificed so that all man can be free from the sins they choose in life IS the key point. If you accept that every person on this earth, even Ghandi and mother Theresa have sinned at least once in their life, and that stain separates them from the holyness of God and Heaven; then you understand that the only way to be one with God and Heaven is to be cleaned of that sin. I caution to not dismiss this point it is the MAIN point in Christianity.

I find it to be cowardly in this aspect . You need heaven , you cant deal with the fact your just another animal and will parish . You the " human " are above all other animals and get a special end . I dont think so .

Christ died for you , so what ? so you can pull tons of shit your whole life as most do then figure your a shoe in for heaven since you trust in God ? sounds like an excuse to pull bull shit on other humans to me .

If i live a cleaner more just life then the next guy , do lots of good deeds and help others while he is a flipping jerk but he trust in God that means im ass out and he is in ? Fine i dont want to go there then .

Ill take it to the bibble . God created me in his own image right ? Cool then he would certainly understand my points of view and not hold it against me now would he .

I am one with the earth , i hold my self no better then your pet , the grass in your yard . I am no different or worse then you . I can except that i will parish and exsist no more . I came i lived i died . The need for eternal life to me is a unwillingness to except your demise . Our higher education leaves us humans feeling supierior , i dont except this logic that because i have more ability to learn then the dog does i should have eternal life :gman:

If you view it in quantum rather than relative terms it becomes simple. If a single sin separates you from heaven just as much as 100 sins, then how could you enter heaven if say you stole a toothbrush at age 10, or said the lords name in vain at age 15? It's true, you should try to live your life as a good, honest person; but that is not enough to enter into heaven.

From the Bible. Luke 23:42 about the thief (a man who certainly sinned throughout his life) while hanging on a cross next to Jesus.:

Luke 23:39-43

[39] One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: "Aren't you the Christ? Save yourself and us!"

[40] But the other criminal rebuked him. "Don't you fear God," he said, "since you are under the same sentence? [41] We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong."

[42] Then he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

[43] Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

When a common theme within their beliefs is to spread the word, then they open themselves up to the scrunity
