Default Skiiing/Snowboarding Helmet

I think I'm going to get one this year. I plan to do a lot more skiing, actually haven't been on skis or a snowboard in years.

So, what am I looking for? I think I'm going to stop by Dick's Sports to see what they have. Where else should I shop for one? Anything to stay away from?

My wife & I were in Boyne country sports the other night looking at them. They have a large selection. The problem is that 3 guys were standing at the counter bullshitting and never bothered to wait on us. We browsed them for 10 minutes and decided to leave. I'm not going to beg someone to sell something to me.

So, although I haven't helped with your question, I would suggest not bothering them. We're going to shop at the smaller stores where the sales is important to the storekeeper.

Check out Corky's in Roseville. Check out their last years stuff. Usually a lot cheaper.

Shopped at the Boyne stores, way toooooo expensive. That's why even though I LOVE REI, I haven't really spent that much money with them (just sometimes they have what I want and nobody else does).

Roseville? That's a looooong way away from me.

I know Giro pretty well, I've had a few of their bike helmets. Don't really know much about Smith or Red.

Which location?

I have good luck with the staff in novi. Terrible on Woodward.

I have a smith variant that's super comfy.

Boyne will have the best selection on hand to try on. REI will have a few.

Dicks won't sell ar's anymore so I stopped shopping there.

Shop at Boyne, find one that you like and fits, and then go to www.backcountry.com where you can find something at least similar and know what size you need. Sizing is pretty brand specific so make sure you don't figure a medium Giro means a medium Bern. Both of those brands are good, I prefer Bern myself.

Bullshit. The helmet prices are almost impossible to beat at Boyne. I bought 4you new helmets last year and looked everywhere online. At the time Boyne was cheapest.

Smith is smith goggles, sunglasses, and now helmets.

Red = Burton.

Giro= didn't fit my nugget

Features I wanted, vents that could open and close, ear coverage, audio compatible, room for a thin Beanie underneath on coldest days. Ymmv

Woodward.
The clothing staff was great. Went upstairs & it was a bunch of young kids who didn't care.

Yeah, I've had my issues there, I am stuck with Boyne due to signing up for the "Junior has a fit" ski upgrade program and the millions of coupons that came with it.

I have never had a problem with the Novi store, they have a super cute young blonde girl there who knows her shit and is very helpful, and a not quite that cute young brunette who is also very helpful.

I will not step foot in the woodward store ever again and have made sure to make that clear to that store and the others.

Not sure about stores in the area but I have a Giro and love it. Plus I had an issue with the earpads and they sent me a new pair for free. Excellent customer service. One thing i like is adjustable vents rather than plugs. Especially with the weather last year.

For your sake don't buy his helment - you will gag to death if you get near it.

If you sign up for theclymb.com sometimes you can find deals on there - only problem is that sometimes it takes a while to ship and I suppose if you had to return it I'm not sure how you would. Oh, the other problem is it's rather addicting to shop there :s
