Default What year 302s will fit my 71

I have a 71 F100 with a 302, it runs good but doesn't sound good, per the mechanic I had fix it, I haven't picked it up yet, So I don't know if it is blown. But if the motor is done, I want to find a 302 to rebuild and throw in, anyways what years will my trans, and intake manifold bolt into?

All 255,260,289,302 engines can use the same intakes...carb or efi. Any trans that bolts to a 302 will also fit any 255,260,289 and 351w.

Only thing you need to worry about is the change in balance around 1980. Up to 1980 all small blocks used a 28oz balance crank with matching flywhel/flexplate. After 1980 302's went to a 50oz balance. You can not mix 50oz balance motor with any early 28oz stuff .

Wrong!!!! Early 64/65? 289 had a five bolt bolt pattern on the bell housing.Pretty bad when a chevy guy has to correct a ford question.

My bad for forgetting about those needle in a hay stack motors........63 to early 65 fullsize fords with a 289 had the 5 bolt,true...good luck running across one of those though.

To the original poster though.... I would just look for a newer 351w to swap in place of the 302. Your trans and flywheel/flexplate will bolt up and all 351's are the same 28oz balance as early 302's. The intake wont swap over but the other 98% of the parts will. Easy upgrade for a nice bump in power.

One of those needle in a haystack motors cost me a bunch of money and some grey hair, thats why I brought it up.lol
I bought a mint 77 Mustang 2 with a blown up 302 in it.It was clean as could be and 100% stock.I hated fords but figured any little car with a big motor should be fun.I bought a built 289 from a 65 mustang for it and was shocked when it wouldnt fit on the same engine stand the 302 just came off of.The v8 mustang 2 used a c4 with a tiny bellhousing, flexplate, and convertor. There was no way to use the 5 bolt 289 in the mustang 2 so I sold the whole project.

Hmmm, I was discussing the 351 idea earlier today, dunno why it didn't cross my mind before, if I'm doing a swap might as well add 49 CI
