Here's a drop chart I ran on line using my rifle data . Unless I'm figuring something wrong my 2600 fps at the barrel is still sonic at a grand. My phone program (Shooter) figures 1180 at a thousand. As you can see its dropping like a rock though. A friend in Mio found a spot we can get a thousand yards now we need better weather or snowmobiles.

308 168g SMK @ 2400fps from my 18" barrel has a max range of about 800y, with a subsonic transition at about 840y.

308 175g SMK @ 2400fps from my 18" barrel has a max range of about 950y, with a subsonic transition at about 980y.

308 200g SMK @ 2400fps from my 18" barrel has a max range of over 1000y, with a velocity of about 1200fps at 1000y.

308 208g AMAX @ 2400fps from my 18" barrel has a max range of over 1000y, with a velocity of about 1300fps at 1000y.

Note, this is from an 18" barrel at about 2400fps, which is leaving a lot of velocity on the table.

what do you supper snipers think of this scope,

http://www.opticsplanet.com/nikon-mo...flescopes.html

Nikon Monarch 5-20x44SF Riflescopes

Not a Leupold, but the price is half and I really like a couple of my Nikon shot gun scopes.

The Nikon scopes are great I have a few of the older 6-20 Monarchs . The glass is very clear even on high magnification clicks are solid . I haven't looked at the new style knobs to see if the number/lines are easy to read ? If your going to set it and leave it that doesn't matter.

My only beef with the Nikon is while they fully warranty against defects they do not warranty misuse . We shipped one back that had a problem and because it was scratched they wanted more to fix it than it was new. We shipped a Leupold in that a customer fell on and smashed. He just wanted a estimate to repair and they shipped a new scope without asking. I guess this is where the price difference comes in .

Another good value scope is the Weaver line . There scopes are clear maybe not as good on higher magnification but decent .

Just came from Meijer in Lowell, they have quite a pile of ammo but all of the .308 is sold out. Some one dropped a load of cash.

I have a match set of Leupold 6 to 18 x 40 VXII they are a great scope, and the price has come down on them a lot since I bought my last one maybe eight years ago.

I have used Nikon scopes on my shot gun slug guns and they are very clear.

It will be interesting for me to use this one as I have never tried to dial in a BDC rcticale and match it to the actual drop carachteristics of the round and caliber being used. It can not be an exact science, just close, as to calculating the hold over.

I believe you adjust the far range by manipulating the zero range. I.E. if the 500 yard hold over is not high enough you adjust your xero from 100 to 150 or 200 what ever the case is.

any experience with this out their?
