Default XJ no Heat!

O.K. i have an 2000 xj, the engine temp runs normal but blows cold air , is there a heater valve somewhere? i blew air throught the heater core and it seems to have flow that way. i ran it a while this morning with it jacked up to try to get the air out if it had an air losck for some reason. Any ideas? thanks Kim

97+ doesn't have a heater control valve.
Maybe a stuck blend door?

Does you vent selection switch work properly?

Mine 2000 XJ does the same thing, it doesn't blow cold air when the heat is on, but it just blows warm air. Nothing compaired to how hot my 99 XJ would blow out. Will change the cap and see if it makes a difference.

the cap is my next step, today i ran a garden hose through the heater core, got a little bit of black stuff out of it the nice clear water, switched and fed it back through the other way nice and clear. hooked everything back up and ran it and great heat, so i drove it to work tonight and on the way it went away again. ? i'm going to get a radiator cap tomorrow. I know this may sound dumb, but do you have enough coolent in the system? Also after you work on the lines did you try to get the air bubbles out of the system? My 95 XJ would slowly leak coolent and the system would only circulate in the main coolent line and not send any to the heater core. Just my. 02

I had a 95 monte carlo doing that found a blown head gasket. No coolant in the oil ran fine but it was putting compression in the radiator. Get a radiator tester pressurize the system and see if it holds. Black stuff you found in the heater core possibly carbon!

Our '96 XJ did the same thing. would blow only cold air. I replaced the heater blower motor resistor which goes through the firewall down near the blower and this fixed the problem. I think it's part #16 in the diagram below. The flat base of the resistor was diamond shaped. Seems counter intuitive since that electrical connector should turn the fan on and off (which was already working) but not control the thermostat for hot fluid flow. Nevertheless, it worked. I replaced the blower motor and fan while I was in there.

check that the heater hoses aren't collapsing when engine is above idle, had an old truck do this. replaced the hose and it was back to normal.

Vacuum leak. Or the plug on the back of the heater face unit.

Being low on coolant can do that. Mine was not getting as hot. Sitting at a light it was ok and when i start driving down the road it would cool off which led me to think the coolant is low. I checked it and sure enough.
