Sad to hear this Roger.
By chance do you and the Mrs. get to keep your special booth?

The high cost of food/ingredients -along with the prospect of increased taxes, added regulation, and mandatory health insurance from Obamacare - will cause others to join the death roll for the restaurants.

The place where my wife gets her hair cut is seriously thinking about shutting down as soon as their lease expires in 2013.

Anyone else have any stories about local businesses that are going out of business?

I don't understand, but the story just isn't adding up. If it is indeed simply because the building needs repairs, why do it so abruptly? Why send an email to only a few employees last night? Why let everyone else see it on Facebook in the morning? I have been in that place countless times and while it is a very old place with crooked windows and warped floors and I wouldn't be holding line dance lessons for the cast of The Biggest Loser in one of the rooms upstairs, it won't be crashing to the ground any time in the near future.

They may have gotten cited by the state for unsafe building?
Mary said she even noticed how unlevel the floors are. Takes a lot for my wife to notice something like that.

the oakland press said this morning

http://www.theoaklandpress.com/artic...b108764013.txt

that an inspectionof the building was done and repair work to the foundation and roof were needed. it is inferred that the expense of the repair is too great to bear but they did not come out and say that directly. it's a great place just way out of the way and the poor economy may have hurt them. also, the last time we were they the inside felt link a tinderbox. it seemed like a hot lightbulb could have set the place ablaze. $50 sez it's "struck by lightening" in the next 12 months.

At least you got an announcment on facebook, when the birthplace of the fenton chapter closed down all we got was a shitty ass hand written sign taped to the door that said closed for renovations/improvements.....we never got our bar back.

I don't know if Obamacare figured in the decision, but it wouldn't surprise me. Facebook had some people wanting to crucify John Scnatter of Papa John's pizza for not wanting to absorb a 14 cents per pizza cost for Obamacare. I'm betting that's a healthy chunk out of his share after operating costs.

I can see a quite a few businesses closing due to the combination of poor economy and government mandates.

I was in Metamora the other weekend. I did not have time to stop in but the building looked interesting, as well as the rest of the architecture in the town. It's a shame to see them go out of business.
