your auto hubs will stop working at the worst time.
they are vacuum operated and they blow!

when im on open freeway i unlock them, unless its getting pretty snowy.
once there is snow on the ground they are locked.
running them locked wont hurt anything but mpg's.
Lol... Than you switch them to manual...

The problem is that most the time they won't turn when you need them to cuz they have been in auto mode and not turned for the last 5 years.

If your too lazy to turn your hubs every once and a while to keep them moving, than you deserve to pay for new ones.

I would consider periodically manually locking the hubs as basic "preventative maintenance".

My vacuum lines are capped and i run manual lockouts, my truck doesn't like having the hubs locked in all winter. It doesn't seem that difficult to get out and turn the hubs though, i'm not sure why i would run them locked for 7 months at a time when we don't get that much snow. Then again I drive my truck everyday in the winter.

Yep the auto hubs suck. All of our shop trucks get manual hubs asap.
I think the reason people dissagree about how stupid duties do in 2wd comes down to tires, srw vs drw, and weight.
A few years ago I pulled a dozen stupid duties out of a muddy parking lot at a mud run with a S10 blazer. The lil blazer had cooper stt tires and the stupid duties mostly street treads, and drivers with no driving skills.

mine were stuck in auto the day i bought it.
the dealer wanted near a grand to fix it.
i left them in auto without issue for 7 years.
when they finally failed, i got a set of manuals for $50 or $75 on here.

autos will fail sooner or later!
i dont wanna rely on vacuum to lock me in.
