vin number scam?

I have my tj for sale on craigslist. I get a voice mail, and text from the possible buyer from a local #. A few texts back and forth, he asks for the vin to do a car fax. Is there anything that he could do with my vin# to somehow scam me?

Not that I know of.

If so... Dealerships must be getting raped for posting them on their websites in their ads.

I don't think it is uncommon to ask for a vin to run a carfax.

If someone could scam you with a vin, don't you think they would just go to a parking lot and pick one out. They aren't exactly hidden.

Ok thanks. I hear about the scams on craigslist, I just wanted to know if I was not setting myself up.

He's going to report the VIN stolen and have the cops take the TJ from you and give it to him.
