I got my M35A2 from someone on Steel Soliders, who had several from auction. Traded a quad for it.

Depends on if you are trying to save a buck, vs save hassle. It can be hit or miss on what you get, and how long it takes to get it out of auction, and get the paperwork for title completed.

I got mine in trade, which I put at $3800 value. 1971 Jeep M35A2 with winch, air shift t-case, hot water heat, newer vinyl top and cargo cover, troop seats.

I wish I still had it, but I had some strange severe allergic reaction to the interior controls (suspect the steering wheel). I think I would like to find another one in a couple years, and run single 395s, possibly bobbed.

Edit: Mine didn't need any work at all, and everything worked. It had just come out of MNG from an MP unit the year before I got it, and only had about 3000 miles on it since depot overhaul, 15000 miles total.

They arne't very expensive in good condtion, if you buy from that kind of guy: private guy who buys them in large quantities, and resells them. If you find them local around here from someone on CL or something, they always seem to want a couple thousand extra.

This thread made me wonder about that. What do people use them for?

Mine was mostly as a fun toy to drive. We took it to some car shows, especially the kind for kids to come see different kinds of vehicles. We did the waterford memorial day parade. Cruised woodward in it. Mostly just for fun. I found it very useful for picking up lumber when I was building my deck, also. I also had to do some vehicle recovery with the winch, for my brother in law's towing company.

The fun thing is they are big, but not crazy big. 13-14k lbs, which is the weight of a 3/4 ton pulling a jeep on a trailer. And about 24ft long, so like 3-4 feet longer than a ext cab dually truck.

Manual steering sucks, but you get used to it. They are slow, but thats just what they are. You just enjoy the ride. You are in 5th gear by about 35 mph. I'd have liked to gone to 395s to get top speed up to ~62mph.
