Default lightning engine

Anyone ever put a lightning engine (5.4 SC from a 1999 not the 5.8) into a street rod or custom application? I have a line on a fully built Lightning engine its a really well built engine with a ton of power. I am thinking about running it in my 74 bronco build. I can get the trans, computer and wiring with the engine. I know and assume I can get the computer reflashed to turn off certain things like pats key etc. but not sure of what wiring I will need, would I need any part of the body harness or just engine/trans.

Im hoping someone here has done this before and can give me a little insight, I dont want to drop the money if I wont be able to get it to run later...lol

Thanks,

I haven't, but would assume that 99% of any problem you would encounter would be electrical/computer related.

So I would grab everything possible from the donor truck.

Is the bronco body going to be wide enough to fit the wide deck of the 5.4L in there?

I wouldnt be worried about how wide it is....have you ever seen how TALL a blown 5.4 is?? Fricken huge!

In a 74 Bronco I bet the upper intake would middle of the windshield.

Current issue of Bronco Driver details some of the issues of a new 5.0 Coyote install in an EB. There were some fitment issues, not sure how close the Coyote & 5.4 are related.

hey hey, some one gets it!

the engines are not really any taller then an old 351w with a carb and filter, they are about 1.75x wider tho because of the cylinder head design

Have you ever seen a 5.4 Lightning motor??

A 351w with a carb and intake will fit under a stock mustang hood. Here is a 5.4 in a Mustang....it wouldnt fit under a 5" cowl hood.

I have a bunch of links on 5.4/4.6 swaps into old mustangs including wiring tips and links to where to vet harnesses etc and who can handle the ecm. I did a bunch of research when i was gonna swap a 5.4 into my torino until i sold the car. But its all saved on my laptop at home.

Erin, I want to believe you, but do you have torque monster headers? I know you have/had a 5 speed.

Actually with a stock Triton 5.4 intake it still wont fit. Sorry not tryin to be a dick but facts is facts. Drop a grand on a Edelbrock or Sullivan intake setup and you can squeeze one under a 2" cowl hood tho.
