Default rocker panel repair on a 96 1500

so my drivers side rockers have a nice size hole rusted through and gone, any suggestions as to what would be a cheap way to fix this and make it look decent? the only thing i have thought of is to cut out a solid patch so i have solid metal to weld to, patch it up, and then herculine it, seeing as where my fender flares would go is already herculined, i figured it would match the rest of the truck (id obv do the passenger side also) but if anyone else has any other simple ideas, throw them out there lol

cut and weld. I tried to fiberglass mine and it bought me a couple years but i ended up biting the bullet and replacing them.

yeah thats what i was thinking ramman, i figured if i weld a solid bead all the way around it, grind it down a little, with the roughness of the herculine, youll never know it was patched.
