Default Used vehicles that have been in accidents

Would you buy used car that's been in an accident?

I've been looking at a lot of used cars online lately and a couple I've been interested in, have been in accidents. One is a Saturn Ion owned by a guy who buys cars from the insurance company, fixes them up, and re-sells them. It has a clean title, though. I talked to him on the phone, the drivers side airbag blew and was replaced, the front bumper was replaced, radiator replaced, etc.

For the insurance company to have them to sell to this guy, doesn't that mean a car has been totaled?

Am I paranoid, or is this a bad idea?

In mid-michigan, yes. If you can talk to the guy that did the repair and know enough to identify shoddywork, yes. Anywhere near a city or from someone else that already owns it, no!

Totaled, yes, but on an 8 year old car blown bags can put it over the edge.

As long as the work was done correctly i see nothing wrong with buying a previously wrecked vehicle. just have to watch out for frame damage that wasn't repaired correctly. it isn't fun driving a car dog tracking down the highway. i had a neon once that dog tracked cuz it was hit in the front.

The guy that is selling it, buys them from the insurance company, fixes them, and then re-sells them.

Here's the car in question:

It's in Millington. Anyone familiar with somebody that does this down there?

It appears to be from a business called Schultz's Auto.

i would not pay 5200 for an ION, even if it had 3000 miles on it and only driven to church and the grocery store.

Even if the work is good the next buyer will have the same concerns and questions when you go to sell it.

If it is too good of a deal to pass up then crawl over every inch of the vehicle. I can count using the fingers on one hand the times I have had repair work done where the mechanic has not forgotten to tighten bolts or connect fasteners or just left them out entirely. The larger the job the more likely there will be missing or misinstalled components, especially the ones hidden from sight.

Another issue could be the quality of the corrosion protection. We had a vehicle repaired and several years later the repaired areas are rusting terribly while the rest of the vehicle is holding up much better.

I don't understand why an insurance company would own a car that was in an accident, and be able to sell it to someone to fix it, without it having a salvaged title.

Seems like a racket to me (I realize this isn't the only car this happens to and thats my point). The whole idea of an insurance company owning your car means it was damaged badly enough they didn't want to pay to fix it and they "totalled" it. So if this is the case how can they sell it back off and allow it to be fixed with a clean and clear green title?

Depends, maybe you are quick to judge?

Were you implying they are "damaged" goods? If so you're ignorant.

Were you asking Mike Sova if he would lower himself to the standards of marrying a girl with a child? If so you're ignorant

Perhaps the vagina should have a salvage title. Childbirth can be a damaging thing. Just sayin'.

Not quick to judge. Didn't mean it like that. Didn't mean to offend anybody! My sister has a kid and isn't with her baby daddy

Back in high school, my sex ed teacher gave a great lesson on how child birth really tears up the snatch... therefore she won't have kids Lol If I can remember correctly, she said "I won't have kids. Have you guys ever seen what a vagina looks like after birth?"
