Default Gout

Anyone else deal with it? I have not had it in 4 years and it came back last week with a vengeance. I still have a lot of pain but I can at least walk. I took prescription NSAIDS, drank a ton of cherry juice, and cut out beer but it is still lingering.

I am going to try some baking soda.

Dried tart cherries, should be able to get them in the fruit and veggies section in the super market. Eat a small tub of those. Some people claim celery extract pills help keep it away. can get those through mail order, although I have tried them. I am on a maintainence does of 200mg of Zyloprim every day and have not had a flair up in many many years. 90 days of pills are $12.00. I have an occasional beer but know what will trigger a flair up.

My neighbor suffers from it. When it's bad he's bed ridden for days. One time I seen him his hand looked like he had a boxing glove on. He said he has to stay away from red meat , beer, nuts and eggs. He said those all trigger it.

It's a buildup of extra uric acid in your system. Dried cranberries and dried apricots will help, but if it gets real bad, there is medicine for it now. Not just NSAIDS, but a specific med for gout, and it works. Talk to your doc.

My buddies dad said the only beer he could drink that wouldn't trigger his was rolling rock

I did talk to my doc and am on some prescriptions right now. Its taking forever to go away. Cherries don't work for me. Right now nothing seems to work.

at first tried cherries, bags of them but when i did some research i found out you need alot to do any good, i found a concentrate at a super market that was strong like 50 cherries in a table spoon. i know how you feel, worst pain i have ever had to deal with.

I take Allopurinol once a day to control mine, haven't had a flare-up in quite awhile. When I do have a slight case of it I take Colchicine 4 times a day till its gone. I too try to avoid : beer, especially gravy , limit red meat and shell fish.

Does your diets consist of mainly red meats, shellfish, and beer?
Only wondering because I have a friend with gout and he refuses to change his diet. He only cuts back when he gets a flare up lol

It used to. I have not had gout in the past 4 years and ate really bad the past 4 years. This year however I have modified my diet and lost 30 pounds. I drink a lot less beer and eat a lot less red meat. I never really ate seafood. I really don't understand why it came back now of all times. From 2008 - 2012 I are really, really bad and drank a lot. I think I did step up the beer consumption a little starting in September but that would be maybe 6-10 beers 3 or 4 times a month.

I have the cherry concentrate and it does not seem to do anything. That stuff is nasty straight up, it's like a cherry tree blew its load.

I think the baking soda is working.

It's weird, the gout keeps moving. In the past 1.5 weeks its been in four different places in my feet. As soon as one area starts to get better another area will kick in.

The pain is tolerable right now but for anyone that has never had it, it can be bad. About 10 years ago I broke my foot but didn't realize it was broken. I walked around on a broken foot for a day and that was less pain then the gout was last week.

Crystals form in your joints. Typically in toes but can also be ankles and hands.

Won't make the gout go away, just makes you not care.

I've had two episodes of gout. In both my left foot became red hot and became as large as a kids football.
First was immediately after a Jeep Jamboree on Drummond in 1994. This was after eating extremely large amounts of shellfish; mussels, snails, shrimp, lobster. Nurses in the doctors office diagnosed me while I was waiting to see the doctor. Allopurinol for 5 days and it was resolved.
Second time was Thanksgiving 2011 at DisneyWorld with my entire family, grandkids, etc. This was on day two of a seven day vacation. I rented a "scooter" and realized that the scooter got my entire family priority loading and seating for trains and many other events. I drank about three times the normal amount of water for three days, and it was resolved.
But I continued to use the scooter until the end of our vacation.
