For a while I was hard on my kids about keeping their rooms clean, beds made, etc. As they got older and I witnessed how good we had it compared to some other parents who's kids were a problem, had health problems or had severe disabilities, I came to realize that if a messy bedroom was my biggest bitch that I needed to ease up on my kids.

I can certainly say the second one was allowed to do more than the first. As a young parent I wanted my first child to be perfect. Well, guess what, they're not. Go with it. As said above, my oldest said to me a couple times "how come I never got to do that but she does?". I was honest. I told her she probably should have been allowed to do it but I was learning just like her.

Kids are a struggle at times but I wouldn't trade them for the world. (but there were times I wanted to choke them. )

Agreed. ^

One of the biggest learnings I has was to pick my battles, because as they grow older, the stress and angst just isn't worth it for every little stupid thing. Concentrate on the important stuff, and try (not saying I always succeed) not to get tripped up over the meaningless BS.

I think the peas could get messy.
Ever consider using one of these?

My daughter was going through the same phase back in the spring...so I got her a job washing dishes in the kitchen I'm the Chef of. Wasn't long before she realized how hard others actually work, and developed a new attitude toward me and those around her. Being hot, tired and greasy a lot of the time helped. Learning what I and her Mother do to provide for her and her brothers and sister was an eye-opener, and now she has a deeper appreciation for the value of work and the $$ you earn from it. Might not help your situation, if she isn't working, she should be.

Also, don't play with your food!

Don't throw a lot of them, she may develop daddy issues and become a stripper.

I have and am currently experiencing many of the circumstances mentioned above(non-turkey incident). Accordingly I have tweaked my parenting. I have managed a basic method that seems to work. I am cut and dry when it comes to keeping order, but with out the tag of a control freak. I dish out punishment as needed based on severity of disrespect or bad standing grade in a class.

I appreciate all of the responses in my time of need. I'm now going to attempt to put a square block of steel through a round hole in a steel plate here at work to understand my daughters thought process.

What is up with fathers letting their teenage daughters wear Yoga pants? They might as well be naked.

Go all PeeWee Herman on her when the mouth starts .....

I know you are, but what am I?

Either that or only talk to her while admiring the 1911.

Just looking into forms of punishment for an ungrateful, disrespectful, mouthy, disobedient, and whiny prima donna!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter IS good 80% of the time, but when she has her flare ups of attitude I become "agitated"
Frozen peas is good, but get a mouthful, and a straw. Shoot them at her head, when she complains, aim for the mouth!
