I think my cat is dying

He has labored breathing, can't control his bowels or bladder, and has cateracts in both eyes as well as hard of hearing. He's 21 years old, and we have to keep him in a dog kennel, so he doesn't ruin the wood floors in the house. He comes out to stretch his legs, love on his family, and eat & drink. His favorite box is in the kennel, with a blanket and litter box. He is so happy to see people when he is out and cruising around, but within 10 minutes, a fudgie drops out. He doesn't even squat, just his sides sink in, and out it comes.

He's been a good cat, lived a long time, and had a good life.

I thought I mentioned, he is 21 years old. We got him before we had the second kid 20 years ago. It's too hard to let him go, we have been through a lot.

Sorry to hear about your kitty That's a long time to live, not like it's any kind of consolation though.

I have considered having my 10 year old lab stuffed and adding castors to his feet.
I know this isnt right, but not having him around is really going to suck.

Sorry to hear but if the cat is suffering you know what you need to do. I had to put my dog down last year. I got him right after my live in gf died when I wAs 21 I am now 34 and he was about a year old when I got him. So I understand what your saying about you have been thru a lot. If it wasn't for my dog I don't know if I would have gotten thru the tough times back then.

The wife was talking about having him stuffed, I said no way. He's going to be cremated. Our vet doesn't put animals down, so we have to take him to animal control. What an undignified way to pass, having to go to the dog pound to have him euthanized. Saginaw sucks balls.

Think of the hungry children. Drop it off at a Chinese restaurant. It will do more good than just simply being put down.

at his age, he would be really tough to butcher, and not very paletable. if he was worth eating, he would probably be consumed here. he was a good cat, good to the last bite. doesn't sound right.

Sorry to hear about your cat. The typical indoor cat only makes it to 12-15 years old. Yours had a good run.

That is pretty old for a cat. Hard to say but it may be time. I had such a hard time with my ol dog 2 years ago that the vet had to come to the house. One injection and in 10 sec. it was over, she passed in my arms. You could try a different vet. there may be some human meds that will do it . Im thinking something sedating and overdosing the cat. thats basicly what the vet did to my dog but it was a shot. pills would also work make sure it is a sedating drug they will feel nothing just go to sleep and stop breathing. Sorry for being so blunt, I know its a hard time

I know it sounds harsh but when I was growing up (we lived on a farm) if a animal had to be put down, no matter pet or farm animal it was taken out back and a .22 to the back of the neck.

Again I know its a family pet but its quick and its only the cost of a .22 shell, the vets are going to run $75+ just to be put down and then another $100 for cremation

Sorry to hear that you have to deal with this

There are plenty of other vets, but he has seen the same one all his life. I would rather take him there.
