Default Heater Core Replacement

Is there a workaround for replacing these such as cutting open the HVAC module from behind the glovebox or is the only way to completely remove the entire IP and half the interior?

My friend's WJ is leaking coolant pretty bad from the heater core but doesn't want to drop the money to get it fixed by a shop (can't say I blame him since he bought the thing for cheap).

I used to replace heater cores when wrenching under warranty and it's not something I really want to tackle either.

You have to take it out. Cutting the heater housing Isn't a good idea. Take out the dash. If is has the auto temp control, I suggest replacing the blend/mode doors while it is out.
