what will you do?
Extreme civil unrest edition. I spend a lot of time thinking about this kind of stuff. Here is the scenario. Some sort of event happens, ww3, massive depression, no more social aid etcetera. Large groups of disaffected people are roaming the streets looking for victims. Not picking any particular ethic group out here, we all have it in us. What would you do in this situation and what have you done to prepare for it? What about your home? What if you are caught at work or away from your home/family?

If thats what it takes to survive, then yes.
I have a coworker that goes on and on about how he is so prepared. He goes on about how he has food stored in his house, and he has ammo, and guns and everything else he believes he will need. He tells this to anyone who will listen. He has a young son he has taught to shoot, but otherwise no other shooters in the house. If everyone knows that his house contains these items, items everyone will want, then what makes him think he will be safe? What goes through anyones minds that their house is enough to protect them? I've asked him these questions and he responds by saying everything will be locked? Whooptie fucking shit. Baracade the windows and doors all you want. A wall is nothing more than a sheet of plywood and maybe some drywall. Does he, or anyone else, really believe he will be safe? Truthfully, if something like this were to happen I personally believe you can't be "prepared" for you because NOBODY in out lives has been through it or will know what to expect. Locking yourself in your house, without proper security such as a moat with crocs with lazers and a full time staff of spotters / shooters looking out just leaves yourself to be a target in my opinion. |

I fixed it!!!

If I am home. I grab the bug out bag, jump in the jeep and get in to the country. I can regroup with friends when I get there. I dont want to be anywhere near a major city if this ever happens.

I have a couple B.O.B. kits, I keep 6 5 gallon cans in my shed and enough food/water on hand for a month. I see a lot of people who say they are going to go to the country. IMO that's kind of a dumb idea since all the other sheep are planning on it. I love living in a state/city where the urban population is small.

Guy at work has a fully stocked BOB, stocked Jeep (that is also bone-stock), and brags to everyone how prepared he is, except for the fact he isn't allowed any weapons.
Figure if I am at work, take his bag and supplies and head home (either in my Jeep or the bike since traffic will most likely be bad). Actually, best bet if everyone was on the streets trying to go nowhere would be take the bike and hit the sidewalks, yards, etc. Depends on the situation, natural disaster or just civil unrest, stick it out at the house. Have some things put away including a large generator and extra gas (plus 8 vehicles that are usually at least 3/4 full for extra there). Wife always stocks up on food anyway, have a well and a septic tank. As for defense, should be okay with what I have. Something major, then head to another location already picked out. Honestly, think live far enough out of town and down a road with only one way in, that 'bugging in' is my best bet. The roads are going to be clogged, the stores will be full of looters, etc. My thought would be to lay low until it either clears up or the looters realize it is safer not to try to get out that far into the 'burbs. |

I keep my truck stocked but 75% of that is because I work in a rural area's in a state where people are few and far. I admit my first instinct would be to flee to my cabin. Its already set up to be livable without utilities. Problem is its 300 miles away.

Hear you on the long trip to cabin, my property is in another state about that far away, but nearest 'civilization' to is is easily 50 miles so nice and remote. |

Remember the black out a few years ago that lasted for a week? That is what I am prepared for, another 'disaster' like that. Generator to run the house and frig, fuel to keep it running, food and shelter for the family. Things that go bump in the night to keep out the riff-raff.
It doesn't necessarily have to be 'end of world' for the looters/idiots to come unhinged and riot or loot. Think about katrina and that gives you an idea as to why you should be prepared for natural disasters, SHTF stuff. |

Some part of my conscience wants SHTF to happen, and the other part of me likes all the ammenities that I have become comfortable with. I grew up in a low income situation with welfare cheese and rice, in a tar paper covered house with out heat in the bedroom I slept in. I have become perty spoiled now, but I have made reasonable preperarations for a debateable period of time. Natural disaster we are subject to gods good grace, cival unrest, it is every man for him self, do not think about coming to take from my little farm, it will get ugly.
