Default donha1mn's 5.9 ZJ Build

I normally spend most of my time over at jeepforum but I find myself spending more and more time here and figured it was time for me to start a build thread on my grand cherokee. This has been my baby for the past 5+ years. It had around 115k when I got it during the summer of '06 and it now has over 171k and still running strong besides a couple of tranny rebuilds. It is my daily driver at the moment but have plans to build it up more when it is releived of DD duty. It currently only gets an average of 12 mpg/220mpt. Im glad I only have to commute 15 miles round trip

How she sits now

List of mods to date:

-5.5" lift: Iron Rock Offroad 4.5" lift kit and Crawler Ready 1" spacers
-Front adjustable long arms and extended rear adjustable short arms
-Rolling on 33x12.5x15 GY Duratracs mounted on 15x8 MT sidebiters
-Iron Rock Offroad over the knuckle steering
-ARB winch bumper
-Bushwackers
-AEM cold air intake
-Front and rear Addco sway bars
-Kevins off road steering box brace
-Kevins off road roof light bar with 4 130W slim lites
-Kolak's tune up/ignition upgrade
-Kolak 3" exhaust with Flowmaster 44
-JCR stage 2 sliders (thanks too_much_talk)
-Other miscellaneous mods such as cobra CB w/4' firestick, new white gauges, new deck with direct iPod connection

Repping the ZJ crowd at Twisted Trails before the 2011 Jeep Blessing:

Miscellaneous pictures:

Future plans for it after its retired from DD duty.

-HP30/8.8 swap
-4.56 gears, lockers, trussed
-35's
-231 swap w/SYE
-8000 lb winch
-6.5 or 7" lift
-rear long arms
-boat sides
-Kevins off road rear bumper w/tire carrier
-engine rebuild eventually

And that just about covers it more or less. I know Im leaving stuff out but Im not about to try and cram 5 years worth of crap. Im going to be updating this faily regularly with updates/maintenence/pictures as they come along.

No I haven't used them for their intended purpose yet. Hopefully soon though. I possibly have another job lined up which will get me off nights and more money to play with. The girlfriend likes to use them as steps .

I honestly dont know how long I am going to keep them on. I took the rocker covers off to install them and both rockers are starting to rust out. The drivers side more than the passenger side. So I'll probably wait till spring and have my rockers cut out and boat sides put in.

Yea I wish we had more time to oogle over our jeeps haha. Im sure I'll be seeing your niner sooner or later though

Very nice jeep! Do your rear tires rub at all in the back, or do they tuck up in there?

Thank you. Nope, my tires don't rub front or rear, full lock or flexing. It's kind of the nature of having a lift on short arms in the rear. The rear axle travels up and towards the rear of the jeep when flexed. There's no problems with it other than looking goofy. The only real way to correct it is to get rear long arms which I plan to get. I just have to come up with $1500 first

Nice ZJ. Not a huge fan of the BW flares but I like it otherwise.

Yea I plan on buying a set of rear long arms. I plan on keeping my fronts. Rear long arms are around $1000 plus modifications to the axle and exhaust.

I really liked them at first but they are starting to wear off on me. I can't really remove them and expose the 3 dozen holes in my fenders. I'd like to trim my fenders for 35's but I can't for that reason so I'll just have to lift it higher haha

Yep they are the factory vents. I repainted them last summer after I noticed the factory paint coming off.

Good to see you here as well. Cant wait to see pics of your jeep with the new bumper on it. It's definitely coming along quick.

I do wheel it, just not as much as I'd like to. I haven't since I broke my front driveshaft, broke an axle shaft, and destroyed an ABS sensor in the same day. Ever since that day Ive been taking it easy on her since I need it to get me to work.

As far as the blessing goes I'll probably take it on the intermediate course. That is if I can get work off since I havent had a weekend off since June.

Yea i spend more time over here and Liftedbrick now that jeep fourm's went down hill. Im sick of people telling newb's to search when all the threads that come up are just saying to search. as to the bumper im stoked! my lil 4.0 still isnt much compaired to ur 9'er but hey il live.

I hear ya on the whole breaking crap. it kinda takes the fun outta it but the way i look at it I dont break things, i make room for improvement!

and i really hope you can make it next year. from what ive been told the courses will be a bit diffrent. but thats sector 7 classified.

That has got to be one of the coolest ZJ's I've ever seen. Painting the turn signals vastly improves the look of the front end. That looks so much better.

I love those Sidebiters too.

Thanks! I painted the side markers and parking lights after I had gotten into a fender bender in a parking lot a few years ago and couldnt get them to work properly again.

Pics of aftermath:

Yea she's still wearing some of the battle scars from that. Should have seen the other lady's car, the whole passengers side was trashed.

I like to think of it as a good accident though. Shortly afterwards I got the ARB bumper so something like that wouldn't happen again and thats when I got bit by the jeep bug. If it hadn't been for that accident my jeep wouldnt be where its at now.

Update. The brown santa is going to be delivering a M8000 and some JKS diconnects here shortly. I was working on a deal for a used KOR rear bumper but that fell through. I ended up taking off the tail light guards and I am going to get rid of them. I am liking the cleaner look of not having them. Still on the fence about the tinted tails though. Will be posted up pics when I get my goodies.

Got the M8000, JKS disconnects, and a set a hella black magic lights installed this weekend. Torx bolts on the sway bar links were a complete pain in the ass. It took me almost two hours to get the 4 bolts out. I replace torx bolts any chance I get with standard grade 8 hardware. Anyways here are the updated pictures.
