copper harbor is 6 1/2 hours from the bridge... so that might be out of the question. :) There a few things in St Ignace to do, including the casino. There is also castle rock right there...kind of a cool tourist stop. If you're staying in St. Ignace overnight, east breakfast at Java Joes (it's a small place but you can't miss it)...their omlettes are the best! If you're going to go beyond St. Ignace I would hit the Soo locks or Tahquamenon Falls for sure. Or...take your truggy and hit Drummond Island!!! jk...

Get on pure michigan or Triple A web site and get a color tour map, also you could stop at frankenmuth and bronners. Good for killing time. I agree with the others that the west sisde of the state is worth the drive to travel up on. Much more scenic. and more nice little towns

Definitely take the west coast. M22 is really cool, M119 is awesome, especially on a bike. I almost turned around just to ride it again but it was getting late. That will get you from just north of ludington to north of harbor springs. Also the scenic route through sleeping bear dunes is pretty cool. Copper harbor is a long drive and not really anything special. Pictured rocks in munising is really cool, but also a couple hours from the bridge.

M119 "tunnel of trees"

I think it's still open, i'm not 100%...but if your going to the bridge two things 1) get a pasty 2) there a neat little mystery spot just west of st ignace; it's cheap decoration/bad effects kinda stuff, but it's actually pretty cool to go at least once.

There should be some cool stuff still open to see in M city, definitely get lots of fudge, it's always on sale for like by 3 get 3 free, etc, check out the fort, definitely go across the bridge. There really isn't much else to do in ignace aside from the already stated.

As for taking 23 south; there really isn't much, This time of year isn't that great for color; It's a very, very, very, very, very......very long drive till standish lol. It can be a nice change from the freeway though. If you do take 23 south, prepare to be completely 100% bored from cheboygan to rogers city, and very slightly less bored from rogers to alpena, there is NOTHING along those routes, at least from alpena to standish there is a few towns/people. Honestally, it's a must do take the drive at least once though; just to be able to say you did it

Edit: If you've got the time/ feeling spunky, head west on US 2 out of standish, about 40 miles to Naubinway, there is a petting zoo that is supposed to be pretty cool. I've never actually gone myself though. The trip from st ignace to naubinway is a really pretty drive IMO, there some really nice beach front driving for about 10 miles. Go during the morning or evening to catch some beautiful sun. Don't bother going north unless you plan on going all the way to the sault (which is only like 70 miles or something) unless you wanna stop in Kinross and see supermax. Same thing for going east out of ignace. Nothing at all except for a couple tiny little town. Really the only thing worth while in the east is Drummond Island.

I live in Harbor Springs on the west side, Take 75 up do your Mackinaw and yupper fun, then drive back down the westside. Wilderness, sturgeon bay, m119 tunnel of tree's into Harbor which is amazing. On to ptown, charlevoix and TC. Just keep following the west coast back to Muskegon, you will not find a more amazing ride. The ride down 23 sucks.... I've done it hundreds of times. I went to college in Alpena and my ex GF lives there.

If I go this way would it be: south across the bridge to 81West,then on to c66 west until it runs into m119? Then I could just pick up 31 until it hits 96 back to I75

THIS!

My wife and I did this trip a couple of years ago, right up to macinaw. It was for a wedding and we took a couple of days beforehand, this little road-trip was awesome!

Couple places to eat 1) rogers city, I can't remember the name of the restaurant but it's on the west side fo 23 right when you get into town heading south; it'll be on your right. It's a little brown dinner building, (there is another one just down the road called Chi Chi's- do not go there). 2) rogers city too, I think they have it on the weekend but it's Venture Dining, white restaurant south of town a mile or two, all you can eat crab legs; it's pretty good

In alpena, there isn't really anything that is amazing, but the Take 5 deli is pretty good, serve breakfast and lunch, Court Yard if it's dinner time, that place has amazing prime rib; a bit expensive IMO, but worth it for what you get

OK the offical route is now set!

After we cross back over bridge Im jumping over to WIlderness HWY then on to North Shore and then M119 till we run into 31 . 31 will take us right to I96 and then I75 back home to Toledo.

I really wanna thank you all for the help. Im shocked that nobody posted directions to a nudist gay camp resort,Klan rally or asked for nudes of my woman! You all have restored my faith in the good hearts of GL4x4 members!

.......or just really dropped the ball

It was pretty cool of [you] to offer to pay for you guys to stay in Mackinaw City. You should definitely take up [you]'s offer and contact them.
