I have not fired one but i have looked at several and strongly considered one....my hold up is the safety....i am not sure i could i can effectively deactivate it every time i need to without fail do to its smallish size / my big hands.....i prefer the palm safety on the Springfield xds...i will be buying one as soon as it is available in 9mm.

Low recoil in both the 9mm and .40.

Itty bitty safety, if I buy one, I will probably make an extended safety.

Most shootable of the "pocket" 9mm's iv shot (Keltec, kahr, Ruger, etc)

Takes apex parts, good.

Takes regular M&P sights, good.

If the price is right next time I see one in 9mm, ill probably buy it.

I want a pocket 45. I have several pocket pistols but they are either 38 special or 9x18m, not the most lethal round. I would like to fill it with the same 230 gr +p 45 acp I carry 75% of the time. Would this be the right pistol for me Luke?

What are you trying to kill? A hollow point .40 should get the job down I'd think

I have one 40 s&w gun and 4 45 acp guns. I almost never carry my glock and have loads of 45 acp on hand.

Flatfender pretty much summed it all up.
I have the .40 S&W Shield. I put Tallon Grips on it, and had the slide blasted. I feel like I'm very accurate with it. I have about 600 rounds through it, with no FTF's.
It carries well inslde the waist, but I wouldn't really consider it a "pocket gun" per say. I have a Ruger LCP .380 as my pocket carry gun.
It's a great size pistol over all for it's class.
I wouldn't hesitate a bit if you had the chance to pick up a Shield, 9mm or the .40 S&W. You'll make your money back in 10 miuntes if you don't care for it.

I don't get the fascination with this pistol. I'm not trying to sound like a prick here, just trying to understand why shops can't keep them in stock. What's the deal?

For comparison, the compact m&p is just .6" longer, .3" wider, and the grip length is actually .3" shorter, and it only weighs 2.7oz more.

To me, the only reason that I can see this being preferable is for pure pocket carry, not in any other type of holster carry. Is this it? The shorter length makes a difference in my pockets, the width is not an issue, and the m&pC depth is actually preferable for this purpose. The weight is not an issue unless you don't have good, well-fit pants/shorts. The extra weight (including ammo) will make it swing around a good bit more without a good fit.

If you are carrying it in a belt holster, the extra length makes no difference, the .3" width increase is no measurable difference, and the shorter grip length is preferable for conceal-ability, but may be a draw back for some shooters.

Is it the price, the name, what?

FWIW, I have historically pocket carried a Kahr pm9. I had to send it in for a repair and picked up the M&Pc on sale as a temp replacement when the Kahr was in the shop. I hated it at first. It did seem too big for my pockets, but that is how I carried it for a little while.

A few years later I picked up a full size M&P and started shooting it. When I went back and tried the M&Pc, I felt completely different about it and prefer to carry that, but IWB now, not pocket. Would I look at the shield now if I was interested in a pure pocket gun? Sure I would, but I guess I've just moved past the pure pocket gun and look for a larger capacity mag as a major issue for me.

So, what makes the shield so hot to you?

I haven't shot the Shield but did hold one in the store and it just seemed too small for me and I, like many others didn't like the safety. This was the gun I thought I wanted fo my carry gun but I decided to go with the M&P9c and love it!

Small gun + good trigger + ability to take regular sights and trigger parts.

The 0.3 width difference doesn't tell the whole story.

I forgot to mention the apex compatibility. My FS and C, both have AIK's in them. Well, I haven't installed the C yet, but I will. :)

How bad are the triggers on the other pocket guns? I tried the Keltec before I bought the C, but the LCP wasn't out yet. Does the shield have any stock enhancements over the stock M&P? I know that I felt they were quite rough out of the box. It took a while to wear in.

My brother is coming off active duty in a couple months and he is shopping for a pocket carry. He is leaning towards a Kahr but really doesn't to spend the money on it.
