Default Darwin claims another one.

A motorcyclist who died in a Tuesday evening crash on U.S. 127 was stunt riding at very high speed when he lost control of his bike, police said.

Witnesses said Nicholas Daniel Hirsch, 37, of St. Johns, entered the northbound lanes from Cedar Street in Mason and was riding a “wheelie” at 120 to 140 mph, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office said. Hirsch lost control when the front wheel returned to the ground, causing the bike to fall on its side, separating him from the motorcycle.

The rider and motorcycle then hit the face and posts of the guardrail along the right shoulder of the northbound lanes, the sheriff’s office said.

Hirsch was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which happened about 6 p.m. just south of the Harper Road overpass. The northbound lanes were closed for hours after the accident.

Hirsch was a father of three children and worked as the general manager of Groves Motorsports in Mason, according to the company’s Facebook page.

Ouch. A guy on a sport bike was killed on Jefferson a few blocks down from my house a week or two ago. I used to ride/race those bikes. Seeing the mess really creeps me out.

I'm guessing the wheel has a slight angle when returning to earth. . . . things go bad quick at that speed.

A high school friend of mine is in the hospital right now because a plastic bag blew in front of him and wrapped around his front wheel. Had to get airlifted out, broken pelvis and both lungs collapsed.

Yes....up into my late 20's. I drove everything like a db when I was younger. At the time tons of fun........I can't even begin to explain the stupid things I did So I am glad I never followed through with owning my own bike.

Since then I have mellowed out. I am now that db that drives in the center lane with my cruise set at 69mph, consistently

And I still don't know you, or take you serious. Imagine that.

And on top of that, you always rise to the bait of my posts.

The internet is a fun place.
