you say it will "run with ether" does that mean if you start it with ether it will actually stay running than... or does it only run as long as your spraying the ether?

I use the ether to start it and then it runs on its own.

I guess it would be your call. I have only drove it up and then backed up my driveway(4 car lengths maybe) a couple times. I trailered it home when I bought it. I don't really know if it would do any damage to run the engine for a long time as you drove it home.
