The parents were given the chance to opt out of the program.

Many states do allow for administering contraceptives to a minor without parental consent.

If that's the case in NY then I don't have much issue, they are seeing the school nurse, it's not much different than if they went into any other doctors office to be seen by a nurse.

The problem with this that most of the parents are just as immature as their kids. I would not trust many parents to make the right decision here.

Most parents are oblivious and just want to think their daughters are pure little angels when that is hardly ever the case

I say making contraceptives more easily available to younger kids is an awesome idea

How many of you who think it's OK have been a parent of a teenager?

Bruce, I don't care if the parents opted out, I think the choice is up to the parents. If the parents are so lazy that they won't take responsibility for their kids, well, then, the kids have multiple problems.

Schools or not kids can go to their local Planed Parenthood and get birth control for free without parental consent. BUT they have to be smart enough to eat the damn things and not get knocked up at 15-16 years old.

I have never been the parent of a teenager but I have had sex unprotected with a teenager and the parent of teenagers. It would have been a load off my mind to know I wasn't gonna be a daddy.

I agree. Wouldn't be great to prevent yet another problem?

The choice to opt out of the program is up to the parents.

And if parents won't tale responsibility for their kids, why not give the kids a chance to take responsibility for themselves.

And yes, I have been a parent of a teenager.

They can ban big drinks in NYC and give out birth control and plan B abortafacients to minors.
I see a huge problem with society.
It's like banning the population from consuming big drinks and giving away the morning after pill to kids.

Government does not fund it. Other company's like planed parenthood do.
Government will only fund abstinence type classes which have proven to be ineffective.
