Default Fenton traffic tomorrow. for Officer O'Rourke Funeral

Just a heads up to any one in the fenton area, these areas can be congested on a normal day. So between the funeral and the applefest its going to be extra busy most of the day friday. steer clear if possible.

"On Friday September 14, 2012, the funeral for Officer Patrick O'Rourke of the West Bloomfield Township Police Department will be held at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish at 600 N. Adelaide St. Due to the large number of law enforcement, other emergency personnel and dignitaries in attendance; traffic routes will be changed during the time near the service.

Friday morning, beginning at 7:00 AM, all traffic on Adelaide between Silver Lake Road and North Road will be closed. Lincoln Street, Jefferson Street and Wood Street will also be closed. Traffic in the area will re-open beginning at 2PM.

Uniform Officers are asked to begin arriving at 8:30 AM and all attending vehicles will be directed to designated parking and staging areas."

I hope traffic is able to flow smoothly to allow this gentleman to be properly remembered. Rip officer.

to any of you that regularly attend St. Johns, and/or are planning on attending the funeral services.

be aware that unless in uniform, a dignitary or a family member to expect to be standing outside for the services.

I was at the funeral home in Highland yesterday at 4:15ish and it was already chaotic.

3 or 4 MSP Squad cars, 1 or 2 OCSD Squad Cars, and a White Lake PD Unit were stationed anywhere from ½ mile east and west of Elton Black and Son's Funeral Home at M59 and Ridge Road (east of Duck Lake) slowing traffic down, and directing traffic into and out of the funeral home.

So, in addition to the Fenton area congestion tomorrow - be advised that Highland Road/M59 at the edge of Highland Township and White Lake Township is extremely congested during visitation hours (2 pm to 8 pm) tonight if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the heads up on that one. I was going to head through there tonight. I guess I'll make a little detour.

Very sad...

the officers and troopers were very efficient at getting people in and out, but west bound traffic was brake checking each other as early as the amoco station just past ormond road.

if you're going that way (e.g. west towards hartland) I'd take commerce to duck lake to M59, and then you only have the normal northbound back-up on duck lake road due to people pulling in and out of the corner banks, rite-aid and the pawnshop

ahhhh...........that's what it was. I came eastbound and saw the traffic jam and lights at the top of the hill so I took Duck Lake rd.

I am so sad about this. his family is amazing and my prayers are with them. I wouldn't be upset to be stuck in that traffic. I was in traffic today for the fundraiser and it was an amazing show of human compassion.

Hoser posted some photo's on facebookers, adelaide between north road and silver lake appears to be completely lined with patrol cars angle parked on both sides of the road. I can hear helicopters hovering off in the distance, and the entire carnival area (it's applefest weekend which is in their normal parking lot) is filled with uniformed officers.

And, the sun is just now starting to peak out.

My wife could not get out of the driveway because all the cops blocked her in at the light.

Ahhh, ok. I only got to see the end of it.

Bag pipes playing Amazing Grace was kinda...

Were the flags a military honor or a police thing? Was he a veteran as well? I didn't notice any military people, but there were a lot of uniforms in the little window I had open.

that was the largest gathering of people i have ever seen to pay there respects to someone. i showed up at 7 am and 3.5 hours straight it was a constant flow of people headed to the church. during the burial most of the uniform officers were in formation that i counted/ estimated at being 34-40 deep and 50-60 long. plus all the friends and family and other officers that almost would double those numbers.

Police thing. He has a brother in the Navy from what I understand.

yeah, a lot of folks bawling or glassy eyed. even the big burly guys.

she and Pat have an amazing amount of devotion, and what a testament to their deep faith. they certainly were not just believers in name/self identifying like all too many of us are at times - they truly walk the walk and talk.

I'm sure some people would find fault in that some how, but I think it's kinda cool. I guess this is one of those good reminders that dangers are not always over seas. I can't imagine being ready to go home for the night, then getting a call that some guy was thinking about killing himself, and you go to try and be the good guy and help out and... done.

They are beyond faithful people. When I had heard that she had forgiven the shooter just a day or so after it happened that be came very clear. I know I'm not a good person, because that is hate I would carry in my heart until my end of days. It's good to see that there are people in this world that offset people like me.
I also heard on 95.5 this morning that the other day just over the duration of the show they had raised an estimated $50k...
