Default Laptop Suggestions

Hello, since 90% of the topics on here are about everything except wheeling, I thought I would add in. Now that I am on third year of college, its time to get a new laptop. Anyone purchase one recently? Looking to spend about $800.

The laptop will be my personal computer at home, but will be in my backpack 80% of the time im at school. Any brand preferwnce from experience? What size screen should i get? Id really like something with an i5 processor, prob 6gb, with a 500gb+ hard drive. Dedicated graphics would be nice too. Battery life is important too.

Any imput is appreciated.

(Blame any typo's on tapatalk, and not my college eduacation)

Monitor that site^
I have the Dell xps15. It is awesome! i7 processor, 750gb hard drive, 8bg RAM, decent graphics (you can find better ones on the website) had no scratches or anything when I got it and you still have a great warranty. I paid just about $700 for it and you do not have to wait for shipping, I got it about 3 days after purchased.

watch deals2buy.com and slickdeals.net

every two weeks or so the major vendors have sales, deals, coupons and the like to exploit.

we have a couple year old Sony Vaio 17" mobile desktop, a dell inspiron duo for note taking (windows 7 running netbook/convertible table) and I run a Dell M4xxxx series mobile workstation at home.

battery life on the Sony, and the big dell's isn't that great. the duo/convertible does pretty good.

Lemovo Thinkpad, best made computers. I would go with either the T or X series. i have the x230 tablet and it is awesome. If you go through your school bookstore you will save about 30% off web prices.
My X230T
I7 Processor

Aj Hall asked if i wanted to buy a laptop, i went and looked at it, but it was slow. The TB hardrive was filled with incest and beastiality. I decided to find something else.

I like my Mac Book Pro but then again I use it mainly for Graphics, Photoshop and Illustrator. Damn things cost way to much if you ask me but for the price I got it at I can't bitch.

Wait until October for Windows 8 or at least a laptop that is offering a free upgrade when it is out. With laptops I like dell business line of vostro or lattitude. Lenovo has been reliable for me as well.

windows 7 is more than adequate for the foreseeable future.

M$ft is going to have some issues getting people to jump on 8, except for touchscreen platforms where the big candy assed icon/dock/integrated desktop makes sense.

I bought a samsung a little over a year ago and love it. I went with the 14" screen, i5, 4gb ram, and 500gb hard drive. The new ones are even better and priced around $800.

I like it because it goes in and out of my back pack easily and its pretty light.

Yes 7 is adequate by why not wait one month for an OS that has more features? Some of the features offered by 8 will make it easier for a mobile laptop user like faster startup, faster wifi connections, and longer battery life.

My only 2 real suggestiins after selling and abusing laptops for years, dedicated graphics is a must, and look at the hinges. Dell has always made a very nice durable case. 2 most common over time things that wear out and cause failure is the power cird and monitor hibges. Also keep in mind bag/backpack selection gets severly limmitted the bigger size you go. I usually recommend a 14" range (much better battery life and more portable) and then get a desktop. But thats just my prefference. Oh and on the case durability topic...... acer sux!!!
