one link thoughts
So we saw at the club challenge this year how capable this setup is what are your guyses thoughts on it. The debate is 1a link with track bar or 3 link triangulated to eliminate track bar. Im favoring the 1 link for the buggy front for sure. Rear still indecided. So what are your thoughts??

I was one of the guys running a one link at the club challenge. I have been very happy with my setup. I originally started looking at 3 and 4 link setups and the calculators and all of the parts needed. It just looked to complicated and expensive for what I wanted to build. Once I started looking at the strength and simplicity of a one link I was sold.
One of the biggest things I like is the driveshaft protection I have. With the high pinion front I was able to build the one link so it goes under the driveshaft. And in the rear my link attaches directly below the tcase output. This makes it pretty hard for a rock to make contact with either driveshaft. |

With how we wheel (black xj that was airborn more than once) the drive train protection is a big plus since the right foot is rather heavy. Do you have any street miles on your one link?

Only on back roads around my house. It wasn't very road friendly, but I just replaced some front wheel bearings that were wasted. Haven't drove it much since then. If I had a little better hydraulic steering setup, which is next on my to do list. I think it would cruise down the road just fine. Definitely not a daily driver but I'd throw the kids in the back and go get some ice cream.

Thats all im looking for in street manners. Driving to the local bars cruise in night or wheel around the house witht the kid.
Mr. Greene, i hope one of the guys posts pics, it only lost to the 1% team (fat gurl buggies) by 21 seconds, and i would bet that the blue buggy broke more on the long crawl than some of these jeeps have invested.... seems to work well |

From what I saw of it, it's simple, strong, fairly inexpensive, and seams to work great. This is great for a weekend crawler to build. You can stretch your wheel base as much as you like. I think it's one of the next things I'm doing to my rig over the winter!

I'd say if your street time was minimal it would be a very good set up, especially using one of the Frankenheim joints. That and a set of quarter elipticals and you might eliminate the track bar too.

I was checking this set up too. I talked with mike who was one of the 1 link guys and did some wheeling with them on Sunday. I'm sure there will be some hating going on here, but the one link that these guys were running was a nice strong set up. I'm thinking about a one link for the rear of my xj.

You're willing to cut corners with a shitty design to save money but coil overs or air shocks are still an option?
