how to cut dot tags off without destroying tires... help needed

I bought some new tires for my rig and have some tread separation on 1 of them. The manufacture said they would cover it under warranty + shipping, but I need to pay for the new tire upfront and once I send in the dot tags they will credit my card. How do I remove both tags and salvage the tire to use as a trail spare?

You don't. They will want the hole depth of rubber.

Those numbers need to match the info they have on file. It will be obvious to them if it's a number of some old shitty tire and not the one they built.

They will prolly want the whole thickness of the tire sidewall, that way the tire is no.good, but you may be able to boot it and run a tube in it as a "get me out of a trail spare"

When I turned an Iroc in for warranty I had to cut a solid piece that included the bead, sidewall, and tread. It looked like a horseshoe shape. It was ship them the whole tire or that. Either way they want to make sure you don't have a usable tire.

I was told by the cs rep that I could take a skim pass on the dot number. I won't ever use the tire on the road again but it will be nice to have a full size trail spare. I will see what happens with a torch and a hot knife
