I used the trans am pan. I haven't read all the Pirate stuff but I have not had a problem other than losing oil pressure when I flop (DUH) or am straight up on a climb I don't belong on. I run 6 quarts of oil.

I never even considered headers. There is enough heat in the engine bay without headers adding to it. My philosophy was to keep it as close to stock as possible....... I don't need problems out in the trails. We tried a variety of exhaust manifolds, forward facing, etc and ended up using the stock truck manifolds that came with it. (mine is an 03 Escalade installed in a yj)

I also had Jim's performance do mine. Zero issues with it right from the get go. I sent him the harness & ECM. He pulled all the unnecessary wires and everything came back clearly labeled. Was literally plug & play. I wouldn't argue with the dyno tune advice but I'm not sure how much you really need it. The stock 6.0 gives plenty of umph. I have no idea what my HP is over the factory 345 HP. Jim @ Jim's Performance told me that with the minor changes that I could consider I might have another 25 HP but no guarantees. So, I'm definitely south of 400 HP and don't see the need for more. Have there been a couple times where I felt it could use more? Naturally. It's also not a drag jeep so it's fast for a jeep but not fast for a drag jeep. It's good as an all around hill climber and trail rig.

Don't waste your time with fuel delivery. Use a 60 psi minimum in-tank fuel pump & a factory pressure regulator.

I would assume yours is a drive by wire. Make sure you have the EXACT match pedal & module from the donor truck. Just because they plug in doesn't mean they are compatible. (ask me how I know )

I left my intake forward facing. Personal preference IMO, whatever works.

Good luck with it.

This is why I never bother to comment on anything, if it's $100 cheaper to do it half assed, that's how people will do it every time.

You have one of the best resources in the state, perhaps country 46 miles from you but I'm guessing you're sending it across the country to save $150 instead

There isn't anything magic in the tuning. You have timing and fuel. There are 3 or 4 tables that you actually do work in, the rest is turning stuff on or off and fixing idle/coast issues. If your running 12.8:1 ish and you have your timing set where you make maximum torque or hp(have to be on DYNO or at the track to do this btw), you're done. I don't care who's tuning it, it's no different than a carb in that respect @WOT. I bet your file comes back to you with car timing tables and a 15% increase in fuel during PE with the delay taken out. Shit isn't the magic everyone makes it out to be.

You put a stock engine in without changing much, you're probably getting 80% of what's there, which you said yourself is fine. I don't see Jim going too high with your timing being a LQ9 originally so you're probably running LS2 timing files and a fattened up PE curve to cover the timing increase when it matters. If you're ok with leaving XX% on the table, that's none of my business. I was making a general statement, nothing personal.

I don't claim to be super techy. My observations is that in many cases, when people try to optomize engines right to 100% capability, they often give up some reliability. That said, there's nothing wrong with that, especially in a competition world. But for me, my needs are not competitive so I'm more content with not worring about it. I just took it as you saying that anyone not optimizing 100% was doing it half assed.

All is good. Carry on.

I'll also add that my swap was done in 2007 which at that time was a little more rare. There are certainly more people around now that know more about it.

Other than tuning my own and understanding the benefits of having someone work on the specific vehicle in person, not a thing.

So u "dyno" tuned urs after jim did your original computer burn?
Sorry I am confused...it happens easily:p

I understand the benefits of the dyno tune also and where you are coming from.
But I think I feel the dyno tune would be a simular performance gain as to the roller rockers. .few HP max for +300.00.
And the other performance adders wouldn't do dick if it wasn't dyno tuned.

I figure do the same have my harness and comp done mail order, if im NOT happy with performance then ill dyno tune it. Or get the program to do it myself for a day. .:D sounds like fun to screw with.

plus after I get it all in I may want MOAR POWAR..if that's the case ill have to get a local guy to tune anyway.

I would assume the dyno tune would bring reliability more than the performance.

the dyno will make the whole package work as a unit. gears, tires, case, trans and motor. the mail order tunes are a good "base" that is designed to make many customers smile with the same product. both are good and have their place. as far as andy is concerned i think mail order will be fine, but when more tweaks are added to the motor and you want to pull every last drop out of the motor.....a one off tune with a dyno helping you will be the best.

thats the opinion of the not so all knowing grassman

So finally got my phone back to post whoot! Gotta love nerds eh. .

Did the sand lake crawl n had a blast! Noticed my tub starting to wrinkle where the fender meets the body.
Fixed with a hammer for the weekend at r and v, now again body is wrinkled?

Going to have to finish tying cage in the front to the frame. Howd u do it? Anybody?

Also got some new to me seats from Don at r and v...thanks!
Thems goin in tonight!

Loving the 7075 alum tie rod, left gitter on some rocks this weekend and its still str8 as an arrow!

Bumps worked well, did some lil bunny hops thru the python with some new wheelers on Sat bumps landed smoothly.

Still happy with height and length, ready for full the 6.0 though!

Itching to sell the sbc carb engine and go FI..
