Default 89 tracker, worth $200 with bad engine?

Guy at work has an 89 tracker auto
He drove it home last night and the oil light came on so he toped it off but when he got home it was knocking. He is asking $300 obo I'm thinking of offering $200.

'90 and older trackers have a slightly different t-case design that doesn't allow putting in the 4.24 t-case gears.

I think there are a few parts on there some Samurai guys might want...the front carrier for one...

I guess the 'is it worth $' depends on what you might possibly do with it.

Buy it for $200, install a $200 motor, install a cheap set of used 31" mud tires for less than $200 and enjoy way more than $600 worth of fun for the next few years. A friend of mine had a $400 tracker in HS and we had a blast with it. It would go about anywhere.

Im thinking replace engine and 31's. Do I need to lift it or trim fenders to fit 31s?

I would guess that trimming would be required. The stock tracker tires are about 29" iirc.

One of my wheelers is a tracker, I took it out for one run with the stock ifs front and just cut and trimmmed to fit 36" tsl's. That was a fun day.

If its not rusty it probably is, but as stated 89 is kind of a bastard year.

For sure you can part out the major parts (Fuel Injection, Axles/carrier) and scrap the rest and make money.

If it's not too rusty, probably not a bad deal.
