How to deal with a deadbeat transmission shop

I paid 1650.00 to have my auto tranny rebuilt my a transmission shop and it only worked for a couple of hours in fact even when I picked it up after the repair it was struggling to go into first and the shop said that the trans was "intuitive" and had to "learn" where first gear was. Anyway by the next morning I found that I could drive about 10 minutes and the trans would slip to the point that the truck would not move at all until I let it set for about 20 minutes and then I could go for about 10 more and so on. The shop promised to tow it back to their shop and I waited for over a week so I ended up putting it on a trailer and bringing it back to them. 10 days later I was told that my transfer case had a crack in it and it was allowing the fluid to leak out of the transmission causing the slippage? I asked if he had seen a crack or had a photo and he did not so I am suppose to fork over more of my cash and hope for the best? Not going to happen so I am looking for advice from any of you guys that have had similar experiences with shops. I know I can go to the Secretary of State and file a complaint and eventually small claims court but are there any other tips out there that I should know of?

Thanks in advance....

Well first off if you have a crack in the tcase, you will see a puddle of atf on the ground when you park it.

There lots of things you should do....first, have them show you first hand where the crack in your t-case is....then even if there is a crack or not, tell him that a t-case crack will never cause a tranny to loose all of the fluid (at least not for quite some time)

Did you check your fluid level after you started having some issues?? What does the fluid that is left look like? good bright red, or dull maroon/black????

Lastly.....for 1,650 you had better paid them for the removal/rebuild/re-instal, please tell me you did not pay 1,650 for just a rebuild????????????

If the shop can duplicate your concern, they should be liable to fix their mistake.

I have never seen a trans/t-case combo that shared fluid. Maybe some do, but none I am aware of.

I worked in a Transmission shop. They are suppose to run like new after you put a rebuilt one back in (that is if you have good builders, which we did). That is their fault. If they saw that the T-Case had a crack in it they should have let you know. Sounds like a shady deal to me.

This, plus if it was losing fluid it wouldn't explain the works/doesn't/works cycle he stated. No fluid means no working, not occasional function.

Liar, the 79 has two, luckily it doesn't have enough power to matter that the trans was shot 10k miles ago.

Shit, I only paid $1200 for a complete remove/rebuild/install of a trans in a Durango that wouldn't even move.
