gas vs LP on rig
does any one know if their is a hp gain or loss when running lp?
i have a 351W I'm thinking about doing the conversion on. i don't know any one who has ever ran lp so any info would help. and also if you know. how long average will a tank of lp go? HiLo size tank.

if your going to build a dedicated LP rig i would look into running higher compression pistons as propane has a relative octane of 110. this would increase the efficiency by a decent amount.

Well this is all good input. I also think I will be building a sbf to run on just Lp. Unless a decent deal comes up on a mild built one.

Are we talking like 10-1 or higher still?
What would be best compression for Lp only? |

10 -1 is fine, any higher and you would need a second mixer, for most part, a E-425 mixer will do. I run a E-425 on my 472 caddy BB on my heep and could add a second but for what I do, it gets the job done. prob could run upside down, if you can keep the oil pressure up.
oh- any bigger HP motor, you would need a second Mixer and evap. because it needs more air-flow Last edited by XJcoupe; August 11th, 2012 at 06:12 PM. |

I'm starting a buggy build. Gathering parts and info before I'm over my head in it. I've noticed a lot of guys running LP and I figured it was mainly because of off camber situations, and also because of lack of funds to run a nice efi. So it sounds like this fits my needs good!! |

Lp burns cleaner, and doesn't build up carbon like gas does, your engine, and oil will stay cleaner longer, I plan on running my 304 on Lp, and my brother is running his 401 on it also, I've heard you get good run times out of a hi-Lo tank, obviously depends on how you wheel, but I've heard guys can.go all.day on a tank if not more, and being its higher octane its cheaper than gas

I have room for 2 tanks in the rear if my rig.
Is their one kit that is better than another? I've been looking at the kit that jasper sells. http://www.jasperengines.com/rock-crawler.php |

Unless you have the old style valve on the 20lb tank, that propane places are prohibited from filling, this is not possible.

There is a special fitting and adapter for using a grill tank in emergencies. I am 150% satisfied with my propane set up. I didn't notice any power loss. Plus being able to attempt some sketchy lines with out it sputtering is great!
