For clarification, you purchased a jeep.

they gave you a signed title

you lost it before making it to the SOS to put it in your name?

Even if you could get a new title it would be in the name of the person you bought it from. You'd still have to bug them again to get it signed over to you.

Contact the previous owner and tell him you put a new engine in it and you lost the title, so he can claim it was stolen.

You are required to transfer the title within X days of purchase. You failed to do that. You are going to pound-me-in-the-ass prison. (Can I have your stolen Jeep?)

It looks like I can have the previous owner meet me at the SS with the old registration for the quickest solution to the problem. I had to find this out on the interweb since Hancho neglected to tell me this solution.

there is a form to fill out(cant remember what form)....you basically need to know the previous owners name...it is fairly simple....it takes about 10 days for them to do a search(if the previos owner did a lost title or if the vehicle is reported stolen). It may be faster then 10 days if it was bought in MI, I just did this last yr but the truck was from AZ

this is exactly correct, just go to the SOS with the previous owners, name, addy, what ever info you have, and sign a statement about losing the title, if their computer info matches what you tell them on the previous owner, you should be good.

So now you're 110% sure on the subject.

Listen, this is Hanchos math, not mine. Thats a fact.

It looks like if the buyer and seller show up at the SOS at the same time, this can get taken care of quicker than 10 days. The only thing we might be missing is a copy of the registration. Hopefully they will make this happen with out too much hastle. I will let you know some time tomorrow after 10:00AM.

Good Day.

Why does Hancho talk to Green or Green talk to Hancho. They are both wrong 95% of the time.
