They sell special tools for removing/installing the crossover tubes, and injectors but as long as you are careful with a screwdriver you can remove them without hurting anything.
If your close to howard city mi I have the tools, you may borrow.
If you dont want to chance it. Ive done it both ways, the proper tools make the job faster. No real tricks, only advise is to keep injector tip covers on until absolutly ready to put em in the hole. One spec of dirt will plug em up. easiest injectors to change as far as diesels go. In my opinion. Im slow, but it usually takes me about 3 hours for removal, installation.
Good luck.
Check out the cummins forum or google "mopar man" either one has very good write upz on all things to do with injectors, as well as valve adjustment that is worth doing while the valve cover is off.

Use a small SMALL dab of atf or grease to keep the copper washers on. As far as pulling the old ones, the bolts from the tps (you have to remove them) fit in the top of the injector. Have some rtv on hand to reseal your intake elbow. Number six will cause a few frustrations. Took me about 2-3 hours my first time ever. Nothing hard about it really. The bolt trick will make it easier. Read a right up and keep it near to refer to. I will see if I can find the one I used which includes all sizes and torque specs.
