Default 2001 dodge ram 2500 Transmission Problems

i have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 2wd with a 5.9L and auto transmission im having problems with.. just wondering if its time for a total rebuild or if its something minor i can try before actually taking the trans out for a rebuild.

heres the issue..

everything seems to work just fine until the 2nd to 3rd upshift.. (no slipping to speak of, reverse works fine, shift from 1st to second works every time) and its intermittent.. sometimes it will shift just fine.. other times it wont make the shift from 2nd to third.. if I let off, put it in neutral, then back to drive, then it will make the upshift to third, and drive perfectly fine.

in my research, ive found that it may possibly be the governor solenoid.. but just wanted to get a few opinions out there before i start throwing money at this thing.. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

Your 2nd to 3rd shift is not controled by the govenor solenoid. 2nd to 3rd is hydraulic shift. How's the fluid? Are the bands adjusted or possibly worn out?
